Immunizations being done late- Is it ok?

Is this true?

I just tried to make an appt. for DD's 8 month next month and the pedi is booked until July!  Someone just told me that if it's late the immunization is basically ineffective.  When her daughter applied for a masters program they had to give her a complete shot again because of this.

  • No. Its okay. People do alternate scheduling and their children are just fine. its when people try to push them up that causes problems.

  • what?! No, getting them late doesn't make them ineffective!

They can wear off though. Depends on the person. I've had to get the MMR 3 times in the past 5 years because I kept wearing off. I knew because they tested me before TTC DD1, then when I got PG w/ DD2. The rubella part just does not stick w/ me!

  • I am sure it will be fine. My pedi has an immunization clinic and we went in and got shots on schedule then did the well baby check 6 weeks later when they could fit her in. Not sure if you have that option?

  • No, the same thing has happened to us before. At first I was really worried, but the doctor assured me it's okay. =) Not to worry.
  • It's fine. There's one I got as an adult (hep A I think) that you had to get the 2nd shot within a certain time frame or you had to redo it, but most vaccines aren't like that.

  • There is at least one, rotavirus, I think, that has to be done by a certain age.
