This is my second pregnancy and just like my first, I've developed restless legs.... I seem to be alright during the day, but as soon as I lay in bed to read before going to sleep, that's when my legs really start bothering me. It's completely out of control and it keeps me up at night. Last night my husband threatened to make me sleep on the couch. WHAT CAN I DO!?!?!?!?!?

Does anyone else have this problem? Has anyone talked to their doctor? I spoke with a chiropractor but there seems to be little help out there for me.

SUGGESTIONS AND TIPS would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

  • If it is that bad you should talk to your doctor. I'm not sure anything can be done about it but they might be able to give you some advice.

  • My DH has RLS and he only gets comfort when he stretches. Try stretching your calves and hamstrings about 10 minutes before bed. I had one incident of RLS during my pregnancy thus far and stretching helped immensely. HTH!

  • I've noticed mine is better if I get some exercise during the day and stretch my legs really good before I go to bed.  If all else fails, DH will give me a very light massage which always helps me relax and fall asleep quickly.

This!  I had RLS pre-preg and now its only gotten worse.  It totally sucks, but the only things that seem to work for me are stretching or getting up and walking around.  Sometimes if my DH rubs my legs it can help- sometimes it just makes it worse.

  • I used to get RLS when I had my period, and now being PG it happens about once a week. I noticed that it's worse when I'm too exhausted. It's also worse if I lay in bed for a long time before going to bed (like to watch tv or read). Getting up to walk around definitely helps.
  • I've tried tightening all my leg muscles for as long as I can, then relaxing them.  It works sometimes - I'm not sure if it fatigues the muscles or what. sometimes I do it two or three times before it gets rid of the "restlessness"

  • I had it pre-pregnancy too.....I always found sex helped, don't know if that's an option for you or not...Wink

  • I have had it on and off PP and now as a pregnant person. I find that walking or getting some excercise every day really makes the RLS go away (or at least improve) at night. Good luck!
  • I have the same problem :( But I just pop a tylenol and my loving husband will rub my legs and feet until I fall asleep. He has been such a blessing! I didn't have RLS with my other two pregnancies so it has been heaven having him make a small sacrifice while I carry our baby. Sometimes I will take a really warm bath before I get into bed and it helps especially when he rubs my legs and feet to put me to sleep.

I did talk to my dr and she said I would just have to deal with it and it should go away after delivery ;(

  • I was told that it was caused by anemia, and it did quiet down after I started taking Ferrofood.
  • I'm a Certified Health Counselor and a lot of people (more than I thought) complain about RLS.  It's really a vitamin deficiency and especially now since baby is taking so much for itself, you are hitting a low point.  Go out and buy yourself Calcium Magnesium vitamins and take one a day til it starts to improve.  Hang in there!
