Pregnant after a Loss

Caffiene after 2nd trimester?

Ladies I have a question :)

I know caffiene intake during pregnancy is highly debatable and pretty much individually preferenced but I am just wondering this...

I cut out caffiene (except for the occasional chocolate bar or whatever) during the first trimester...moreso to ease my mind since I didn't with my first pregnancy and that one ended badly (yes I do know that caffiene was not the cause but you know how crazy minds work!). So now that I am in almost or technically in the 2nd trimester I was thinking about adding it back in occasionally...moreso when we go out to eat because I am tired of drinking water at the restaraunts.

This wouldn't hurt anything would it? I asked my dr and he kind of looked at me funny b/c he is already ok'd up to 2 caffieneted beverages a day. I know it's probably a crazy and stupid question, but I guess I am just wondering if introducing caffiene after 3 months is ok?

Now that I type all of it out, it seems like even more of a stupid thing to be concerned about!

  • I think that its up to you. I think that most of us have an occasional caffeinated beverage. my dr also okd up to 2 beverages a day. I usually only have one if its a special occasion or if we were out to eat...but my LO is doing just fine!

  • Its totally fine. I did the similar thing and started drinking it occationally maybe 12 or so weeks ago. I still steer clear of sodas, but I have been loving some sweet tea! Tea actually prob has more caffine than coke, but I just have wanted it so bad. So far my baby is just fine and growing like a weed! I say if you crave it, drink it and if you dont then drink water. That's what I do.

  • I cut out caffine in my first tri. I starting dring iced tea or soda again in my second tri. I was never much of a coffee drinker so I haven't really had any. But I do love iced tea!!

  • I'm sure it'll be ok, however when I gave up caffeine for a few months and than starting drinking it again my body pretty much rejected it. my stomach would hurts and be in knots, bathroom breaks were not friendly, and I just felt sick all around.

  • Almost every morning, I fill a small coffee mug half way with regular coffee, and fill the rest of the way with milk, so it's essentially a half cup of coffee, although most of the time I don't even get half way through this and I end up throwing it out, so it's not even half a cup. My dr said it was fine and My LO is doing great. It's a personal choice. BTW: I cut out caffeine 100% with my first pg and that ended in m/c anyways, so go figure.

  • I didn't have caffeine in 1st tri either due to being so sick. I started having a bit in 2nd tri. The only thing I really noticed is that it seems to give me more skipped heartbeats than it did in my first pregnancy if I drink it too fast. I've heard up to 300mg/day is ok, so I doubt a little bit is going to hurt you.
