One spoon/bowl or two when feeding?

I hold a single bowl of cereal in one hand and feed the babies off of one spoon. My mom came for dinner last night and was appalled that they didn't each have their own and said how gross that is for them. I think that it would be too much of a hassle to keep putting bowls/spoons down and switching, plus it would take more time to feed and I'd probably end up mixing the up anyhow.?

?I figure they drool on each other throughout the day, share toys (in mouths), binkies, boobs at every other feeding, and I don't clean those things off everytime a new baby touches them. They're gonna get each other's germs.?

Just wondering what everyone else does.?

Re: One spoon/bowl or two when feeding?

  • That is exactly how I do it!  I figure when they move on to finger food or can feed themselves they'll get their own bowls & utencils.  I used to do it separately, but it is too much work!!   And like you, I figured they share each other's germs on toys, ect. that a spoon isn't going to kill them. • I'm with you. I mean, we have videos of them practically making out with one another that will embarass them like CRAZY when they are older - I figure that with all the *sharing* of spit that goes on around here using one spoon won't do any major damage.

Truly, we are conditioned to find things like that gross. I watch my two year old enjoy her cold fold or partially chew something and then go back to it...she doesn't get grossed out at all. Until I mention pasta - strange kid. But I digress.  I really don't think a little shared saliva is a big deal after sharing my womb all those months.
  • I agree with the other ladies! It really doesn't make sense to give them separate bowls/spoons when they spend all day chewing on the same toys, sharing pacifiers and boobs.

We don't share bowls/spoons around here any more because one of my guys needs extra calories added to his solids, and it is a HUGE pain in the butt to keep track of whose food is whose.

  • One unless they had a cold, etc.
  • Oh, me too, 1 spoon, 1 bowl. I tried in the beginning to do individuals because I wanted be able to tell exactly how much they are eating.. way too much work. I feed them until they aren't interested in eating anymore. And they sleep in the same room, play with the same toys, and lick each other all day long so, germs are going to be shared regardless.
  • oh man, yeah, one bowl and spoon, for sure! they steal each other's pacis all day long anyway...

  • That's exactly how I did it too when they were younger. Now they each have their own bowl and spoon since they eat on their own but they still share things even sippy cups.
  • When I first heard of someone doing this I was appalled too-that was until I tried the two bowl, two spoon thing.  I quickly came to realize that one bowl, one spoon was way easier and they were sharing everything else anyway.  They too still share sippy cups. Perhaps your mom would like to feed them a few times.  She may change her mind!
  • One spoon.  And my twin sister and I ate off one spoon when we were babies, and that doesn't gross me out at all either.
  • Definitely one spoon, one bowl.  Why go through the hassle of switching bowls and spoons??  As pp have said, they share toys, pacis, etc. - I'm not stressing about the germs they'll get by sharing a spoon.
