  • I found out at 20 weeks. I think anything before 18 weeks is a guess.

  • I think the most accurate would be 18+ weeks. Most people have their u/s at 20 weeks.

DH works at the hospital, so a friend of his did a "just for fun" ultrasound for us at 16 weeks 4 days and it was clear she was a girl. Our real anatomy scan at 18 weeks 3 days confirmed girl.

  • We originally were told 18 weeks, but my Dr. has decided 20 weeks is better & more accurate! Good luck being patient! That is my post I just posted "Impatient Momma" I cant stand not knowing either. I am 15 weeks! Seems like forever just to find out.  I cant wait to start shopping & painting the nursery!!
  • thanks everyone!!!! just 9 more long weeks and we get to find out yayyyy! :)
  • My big u/s will be 19w1d and we hope baby cooperates and we find out then. I can't wait to start calling the baby a name.
  • My practice said between 18 and 20 weeks. I found out at 19 weeks 3 days.
  • We'll find out next week at 20 weeks.

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.
  • We found out at 16 weeks but confirmed at 20 weeks - it was much easier to tell early because its a boy. Girls are not confirmed until after 20 weeks just to be sure!
  • you will find out at your u/s...

As for finding out sooner, there is no other way to know except through the u/s????

That's not true.  They aren't just not looking for a penis, they can identify female genitals by 18 weeks, sometimes sooner.

  • Anatomy scans are generally done between 18-22 weeks. This is to make sure that all organs are easily seen/measured. Not to mention, before 17w you really can't get an accurate prediction on gender.

If you have to have an early CVS or Amnio, you can find out then. That is the only accurate way to find out early.

But you can do a gender guess using the nub/dangle theory as early as 12/13 weeks.

  • Not until after they're born and determine a preference.

You can find out the SEX of the baby when the other ladies said.

Yeah that is total crap.  My girl was confirmed at 16 weeks.  And verified at three other ultrasounds since.

  • our appt is scheduled for when i'm 20w6d. but i have an appt next month and i'll be 16w6d at it. and i was already told i'd have an ultrasound because of a cyst that i have. we're REALLY hoping she'll let us in on the sex of the babe that day. and then get it confirmed in june.

She could do this, but she'd still only have a 50% chance. At 12 weeks, our little girl had a bit of cord sticking down between her legs, which looked like a dingle. At her 19 week ultrasound, no dingle, and definite girly parts.

  • 18 weeks. 16 weeks can give you a good guess, but it's not completely accurate.

You usually find out the sex at the 20 week anatomy scan. That's very normal to have to wait until then.

  • The tech at my OB's office "guessed" girl at 13 and 15 weeks. At 17w3d, it was pretty darn obvious she was a girl. I saw her again at 18w3d and 21w. We didn't start telling people until after the appointment at 17w3d.

  • I have read quite a few studies online that showed that at about 14 weeks ultrasound gender verification is about 96% accurate ( i think..somewhere in the high 90s) for both boy AND girl
1 chemical and 1 loss at 9 weeks prior to DS

correct, but she is obviously not having either of those.  So, her only option is to find out the sex at her u/s...

Oh I know. That's why I said she could have a guess... but before that I said the only accurate way early on was via cvs/amnio.

  • Our hospital offers a gender ultrasound beginning at 16 weeks (my OB is the one that told me about it).  We do have to pay $75 for the ultrasound.  We have 2 other private businesses in our area that offer gender ultrasounds at 17 weeks.  My OB said she found out she was having both her boys at 13 weeks.
