anyone do herbs?

just wondering what your experience was/is with herbs. Were you monitored closely, side effects, during your IVF/IUI tx?

HI there. I am doing herbs. I am doing two TCM herbal formulas. However, I am not doing IVF or IUI right now. We're waiting to get into a specialist. I have heard that some doctors won't do IVF if you are using herbs so I would check your doctor's policy carefully.You also have to be very careful if you are mixing herbs and prescription medication as they can have interactions.

I am not having any side effects from the herbs. I am doing acupuncture along with the herbs...the combination made me ovulate on Day 17 instead of my usual day 20+.

My doctor has a no herb policy, and if you want to do acupuncture they prefer that you work an IF non-herb specialist if possible (they have recommendations).

I was when I was seeing an Accu. I brought them with me when I had my IVF consult. And asked my RE if they were ok. He said he had no idea what was in them and how they would react with the drugs. Not that they were bad, but I could not take them at the same time I was going thru, stimming for IVF.

I have not used herbs, but I know that my acupuncturist said he would not let me take herbs if I was stimming for IVF. He said it is best to take them for about 3 months before you start a treatment.

thanks for the info girls...I am just torn about them b/c I am on a break for probably another 3 months but get scared about them too. I don't want to get another bfn and think "was it the herbs" or something...ugh!! but thanks for the info:)

Yes but I was on a break. My acu said it was safe and I trusted him but there is too much we do not know about herbs and the drugs and possible interactions. The herbs I did use from him are grown in the US and were certified organic, vs some stuff another TCM woman wanted me to try that came from China.

I know exactly what you mean about the "what ifs" Do you go to an acupuncturist? If not then I would find one who specializes in IF and they will be able to help you for these next 3 months. I think it sounds like just the right amount of time for your body to take a rest and try some new things and then HOPEFULLY you will get your lucky cycle!

I did do herbs, but only during break cycles. Even my acu didn't want to risk herbs possibly having weird interactions with IVF meds. She said there just hasn't been enough studies yet to justify doing them at the same time.

Good luck! I really felt the herbs I did on my break cycles helped me prep for IVF.

thanks...yes I go to acup and LOVE it. Its such a hard balance between wanting to do everything you can...but not doing crazy things!!

My acupuncturist gave/sold me herbs this cycle for the first time (I've been seeing her since Dec.). I have not had any side effects (that I know of), I see her weekly but I'm not being "monitored" per se, and we currently trying on our own. GL!
