does anyone have recommendations/ideas for where to throw a 1st birthday party in chicago? not including DS, there will be five kids ranging from two to nine, and about twenty adults. we'd love to grill, but we live in an apartment here so we don't have any backyard space... or, um, a grill for that matter... we always have parties at my sister's house, so i'm trying to avoid asking her to have it at her place, but i have a feeling it's going to end up being there if i can't find anything. i'm open to parks (no forest preserves, please), renting out a room, etc.
TIA for any help or input!!
ps: i guess we're leaning towards a luau theme (we moved from hawaii back to chicago after living there for a year, where DS was conceived {TMI?!})/beach theme, monkey/jungle theme i think..... i am also open to theme ideas!
Re: 1st Birthday
We are in the same situation. We live in a condo in the city and do not have room for all the guests we plan on having. I think we're going to end up having her party either at my mom's house or my sister's condo complex in the suburbs that has a pool and a community room we can use.
Just a thought - we did go to a 1st birthday party recently at a bar. They had rented out a private room. It was really nice. We considered it, but don't want to spend that much money.
i tried looking on the chicago park district website... they have NO information on how to rent out or even contact individuals to rent out a room in the fieldhouse or shelter. so irritating.
egsquared - do you mind telling me which bar it was? i was thinking about contacting uncle fatty's for a day time party (they only open at night) since it's very "beachy", but my boyfriend said that would be odd if LO's first birthday was at a bar... oh and btw, our LOs have the same hat
(from your old siggy, haha)
They had the party in the back room at Beckett's (Lincoln/Belmont). I'd say they had maybe 30-35 people there. I love that winter hat from Gap! That's the one you're talking about, right?
i thought this was brilliant and had never heard of such a thing, so of course when my SO and i go to DQ last sunday to check it out (after nightmare parking) they are closed for the winter season and say they'll reopen in february... it is now April!! stupid winter closing dairy queen....
i'm currently waiting on a call back from their contact (from their website), but do you have any idea how much pricing was/is?
i'm just west of beckett's on belmont so i'm goign to have to check that out. i used to go there when it was Belly's... i think it might be hard to incorporate a luau theme into their old english interior though... (if i wanted to be anal...)
yep, i'm talking about the winter hat. so trusty and warm. DS was wearing it today since we had to run a couple errands in the loop and it was pretty windy
we're having the same theme!!!!!!!!!!
I know of one place that rents space out ... "the family room", in the Northshore area. I think it's a lil over $200. There's a nice park out in Highland Park (might be too far) that I believe rents out there picknick area
