EBF question about formula

So I was wanting to get some advice... I would love to be able to leave DS with my husband (or a sitter so we could go on a date).  The only problem is that he often eats every 1-2 hours during the day and I've been EBFing.  I have tried to pump a few times after he eats, but I only get about 1 oz.  And if I pump in between feedings, he doesn't get enough and I end up having DH give him the BM in a bottle.

Would it be possible to use formula for the bottle to leave with him?  I wouldn't go longer than 3 hours without pumping... I don't feel like I have a HUGE supply... so I'm just scared about it going down.

Do you think pumping will get better?

We don't seem to have any problems as long as he has constant access to my boob, but I would really like to have a 3 hour break a couple times per week!  I miss my husband :)

Re: EBF question about formula

  • Try pumping more often...It may take a little while but if you pump more after baby feeds then your supply will build up. I felt the way you do when I had DS I learned the hard way I had to pump more frequently to build up a supply. This time around I pump twice a day after she feeds now that my supply is built up but the first couple of weeks I pumped after every daytime feeding. Good luck

This exactly ... pumping in addition to bf'ing will really encourage more milk production ...
