DH was cleaning out the garage yesterday. We organized it when we first moved in but havent touched it since. He was moving a buch of wood when all of a sudden he started screaming. He slapped something away and abotu 30-45 seconds later started throwing up. I was freaking out because i didnt know what the eff was going on and he kept pointing to the ground ( he really couldn't speak at this point). i looked and finally saw it. a dead spider. and not just any dead spider..oh no...a black widow.
We went to the hospital he got anti-venom and is feeling better today.
So lesson to be learned Black Widows like dark hiding places. please be careful if yiu live in an area that has these spiders.
It could have been much worse of course. We have an exterminator coming today. I am glad it wasn't penny or one of the kiddos but it does suck that it happend ![]()

Re: PSA...spiders!
Spider bites can be really bad, especially Widows!
We had a Brown Widow living on our front porch. I kept trying to get my DH to kill it, but he said it wouldn't bother us if we left it alone. Haa!
I just did..uhhhh *shivers* i don't mind spiders usually...but I want to burn my garage down now! and after reading your post...yeah totally paranoid and cheaking all bottles and sippy cups right now!
Oh my gosh!
We had one in our garage a couple of years ago, but thankfully my husband killed it before it bit anyone. We had one on the front porch last year but I think it was either a male or an immature female - killed it anyway, though.
When I was a kid, we had outdoor cats. I was moving one of their water bowls once and happened to flip it over. My finger that was hooked under the bowl was about half an inch away from a black widow that had built a web under the bowl. OK, I'm itching all over just thinking about it!
I hope your husband is ok, poor guy! That's awful!
WOW! That is so scary! Glad he is ok!
We have lots of spiders here. But most of them are just those big, gross wolf spiders. At the end of last summer, maybe september, I got up one morning and there was a black widow on my bedroom floor!
