My mother's use of "sensual" WDYT?

This had me laughing but my mom and brother aren't seeing eye to eye on this so I thought I'd see what you thought.  My brother is 27 and a friend of his posted a link to a song on his FB page.  Our mother commented "That is one of the most sensual songs I've ever heard.  Love it."

My brother then commented "Mother, don't ever use the word sensual on page again.  Thanks."  And my mom thinks my brother is weird for being bothered by it.  I know it's probably childish to think it's weird but honestly, I wouldn't want her saying that around my friends or on my page either haha  What do you all think?

  • Sounds like what a typical mother that age would say. I would just laugh and shake my head.

  • That is super funny to me, and your brother's reaction sounds very typical of a 27 year old son to a mom who would use that word.

  • I placed a ban on my dad and the word 'sexy'. It just doesn't sound right coming from my father and makes me cringe. My family is very straight and narrow and even though he's doesn't use it in a bad way, just hearing it creeps me out.

DH's family on the other hand, is open about EVERYTHING and what they say makes me blush. Its a completely different kind of uncomfortable-ness.

  • Oh, and by the way, I LOVE your siggy pic. So pretty!

This!  Sensual goes along with the words Moist and Panties- especially if used in the same sentence! It's just wrong.  :)

  • I would just assume she meant it in the way the word was originally designed.  If it's a great song, then yes, it would qualify as sensual since a song is sensory!  I think maybe his reply might have drawn more attention to said comment, but I would probably call my mom and have a laugh over it.

She totally meant it in a sexual way haha  Which is weird because my mom has never been an outwardly sexual person.  I jokingly told her that this is what she gets for sending her kids to Catholic school.  We're obviously repressed :-p

  • Sounds like something my Mom would say haha. I have had to get used to the fact that she is getting goofier as she gets older.

  • At least she didn't say "aroused".

  • my (very religious) always substitutes sensual when she means sexual/sexy.

when I was 16, my friend though self-tanner was a brilliant idea for my glow-in-the-dark legs. it didn't look bad (or orange), it actually looked good. I guess my mom thought it looked too good and might attract the boys.  She freaked out, gave me a bath in bleach (seriously) to get it off because I "looked too sensual." That's what I think of when I hear that word: my mother trying to describe sexy legs. Stick out tongue

    Woah! :)

Maybe a little different, but my mom repeatedly talks about "fondling" baby clothes (not on baby) because they are so soft.   I understand what she is trying to say, but when I hear the word "fondle" I automatically think "molest" and it turns my stomach every time.
