shout out to the ladies from NY ditto on home price...this is a dangerous question....it's not what you make, it's what you keep and what u pay out. we are house poor
we make a joint income of roughly $120-130K between the 2 of us and we pay $1800/month to rent, mind you, an 1100 sq ft 3 bdrm/2 bath house.
we're looking at homes to buy in the $275K-325K range and it's SLIM pickings in areas in which we'd like to buy in. the areas we'd like to buy in cost another $50-75K more.

Mortgage: Including insurance and assessments: $1400 + $65/month HOA...$170/year for community pool
We live in the suburbs of Baltimore...townhouse...about 1100 sq ft

Mortgage: We close on our house on May 7th -- our payment will be about $1600 ... we're currently paying $1250 for rent
We live in the suburbs of Portland.. the house we're buying is 2200 sq ft on .3 acre ... the house we're renting is 1600 sq ft
Annual household income (I'm assuming gross, not net): about $135K
2 incomes
Mortgage: $1300/month
House size: 1300 sq ft finished
Keep in mind that those with 2 incomes likely have daycare as well. Daycare costs us a little over $1000/month

income: usually around 65k. this year will be probably about 45-50k because I'm working half time.
2 incomes (1 1/2 like OP)
