3rd Trimester

Any other 2nd time moms that have not done much to get ready for baby?

I feel like we have not done anything to get ready for this baby!  And he'll be here in 6 weeks!  I have some hand me down clothes, but have not bothered to wash them yet.  We've bought a few new outfits as well, but they are in a pile with tags still on them.  I have a few blankets.  No diapers.  The bassinette is in DD's room with stuff piled on top of it, and the crib is disassembled at my MIL's house.  Car seat and base are still in the attic.  We have not even decided on a name for the poor kid!

We dont really need to buy a whole lot, since all our big ticket items were gender neutral from DD.  And I know that all a baby really NEEDS are diapers, clothes, blankets, and boobies/bottles (i'll be BFing, but all our bottles from DD are also still in the attic too).  So we're really fine, but it seems like we should be doing so much more, lol!

By this time with DD, i had her room painted, crib skirt, quilt, and curtains made, walls decorated, clothes all organized, crib set up, nursery in order, diapers stocked, etc.  I just feel like we're being super lazy this time around.

  • We are way behind too!  C/s is 7 weeks from today and we have nothing ready.  DH had to finish part of our basement so we could clear out her room and now that it is empty, he needs to do some demo, put in a new window, paint, etc.  Plus we need to get DS new furniture so she can have his stuff.  Time is flying by!!!!

  • I'm in the same boat and beginning to panic by the fact that this baby could decide to show up early.

Over the weekend I went out and bought the basics...now, I am harassing my DH to put together the crib and assembe the bassinet in our room. I plan for everything, and this baby has not been so nice to me, so I could see her arriving earlier than expected.

  • I was like that and then all of a sudden I wanted to get everythign together.  Things I did this week;

Bought diapers for new baby, pulled out all the newborn nuetral clothes, set up the crib and washed sheets, pulled out the carseat, bouncy chair, swing...  I feel like I'm making progress now!

Don't worry, all of a sudden 'nesting' will hit you and you'll get stuff together.  I think our lazy attitudes are because we already have a LO and know what to expect.

  • Yep, I haven't done much at all. I'm really trying to force myself to nest this week since I am due in 2+ weeks and have family flying in.

So far, the nursery is about half done--no crib yet, no clothes washed or put away, no curtains, rug on backorder, etc. The PNP is up in our bedroom, but no sheet yet. We have no idea what to do about a stroller, I haven't located the bottles yet or bought new nipples. My house is a TOTAL disaster and I'm planning to try to clean over the next few days in case she comes early. Oh, and she is totally nameless, too. I did buy one back of diapers yesterday because I happened to be at Target. LOL.

It's all that much harder with a crazy toddler running around. He doesn't have the patience to let me clean and is naps are really sporadic right now.

  • I'm pretty much done with what I want to do but it's not near as much as I did with dd.  Part of the reason is that my dd and the new baby will be sharing a room so it's not like I've had to do any decorating.  I've bought diapers here and there during my regular grocery shopping and I took one day to go to BRU and get the big items we needed (during their trade in sale). My dd is 6 so we bought a new car seat and had to buy a new crib as well since hers was recalled.

I feel like there is something I'm missing but thankfully I live in a large suburban area so if we need something at 2 am, chances are we'll be able to get it so I'm not too worried.

  • I feel like I have no motivation this time around!  I have my c-section scheduled and LO will be here in just over 7 weeks.  All we have done is the room painted and the crib set up.  We need to get all of the stuff out of the basement and get it washed and set up (swing, car seat, bouncer, etc).  I haven't washed any bedding or clothes.  We don't even have the dressers in the room yet, so I am waiting for that before washing clothes.
  • Me too.  I'm running around like a crazy woman getting projects in our house wrapped up.  If they baby comes early we'll have stuf but, definitely need moree supplies.  I have a shower in 2 weeks so I'm waiting til' then to fix up the baby's room.

This is definitely us!!! I only started getting ready in the past few weeks!
  • We don't have anything ready either! I have a bit longer to worry, but it's going by so quickly my due date will be here before I know it!!

  • Right there with you.  We move SIX days before my c/s on May 27th.  Our house is being built and we were expecting to move more like 2-3 weeks prior to my c/s.  Oops.  Soooo, just to make myself feel a little less stressed about the whole situation, I bought some diapers :)  Hey, whatever works.  People keep asking me what the "theme" of the nursery is.  I tell them, white walls :)
  • Yeah, us too.  We did manage (2 days ago) to move the furniture in our room around to make room for the pack 'n play, and we bought a double stroller.  That's it...we still need to go through/pull out all the baby stuff, wash what we need to and organize it, etc.

  • I am right there with you!

I only have a few outfits and a bassinet set up. I have no diapers, no tolietries, etc.

  • I just told DH last night that we need to get out the bassinette and wash the sheets for it, wash the car seat cover, was the papasan chair cover, and clear out LO's closet.  We've purchased the nursery deco, but can't really decorate until DD gives up the crib.
  • I've been really slacking. I didn't start getting ready until this past Thursday when I finally bought diapers and some nursing supplies. Over the weekend we pulled out the cradle and did a lot of laundry. This coming weekend we'll set everything up.

I feel like the baby has a place to sleep, clothes to wear and food (I'll be BFing but I do have bottles that I washed and sanitized yesterday just in case) so whatever doesn't get done before she's born can wait. I'm much more relaxed this time around!

  • we JUST got the crib and changing table up yesterday! And I think it's just bc I know in the back of my mind nothing really needs to get done yet, and I haven't physically been able to move things around so it hasn't been done.

It really was starting to make me feel crazy though so DH stepped up to get some things organized. I have less than 6 weeks to my csection, so I need to get moving I think.

And yeah the car seat and base are in our basement, bassinet is being used to hold crap, we have no diapers or pacifiers, and now DD's room is a wreck bc she has no dresser since we took the changing table out and haven't found one for her!

it's things like this that make me wish we were well off bc I would just go BUY a dresser and whatever I needed for the nursery, but bc we're on such tight finances I have to wait and scavenge through sales, etc. I think it's nesting kicking in bc normally a small mess won't make me this crazy!!

  • It's definitely different this time, I feel like I know better as to what I actually need vs. want for baby, so my list of things to do and purchase is much much shorter. They will be sharing a room, so that eliminated some work.  During a burst of energy in the 2nd tri, I started getting some stuff done for a long time now, but I am dragging a**, now.
  • Thank you everyone for making me feel normal.  We haven't done anything for this one but this past weekend I finally started feeling the itch to start.  Maybe this weekend will be my weekend ;)
