Ok, so I got stuck meeting with clients (I'm back to work full time today).
Ok, so I didn't have any external tearing because my doctor was wonderful. Feel free to discuss with your doctors and nurses that you would appreciate their help stretching out the important stuff when you in the process of delivery.
The nurse who was present during my delivery would take her two middle fingers and kind of circle them around my hoo-ha between pushes and made room for Harper to pass through. My doctor continued this. She passed through well.
Of course, he DID catch me with the forecepts and I have 7 internal stitches... not too bad. It is healing nicely and I am already capable of doing kegels and am working on those to make life better for DH and myself later on![]()
I will say that I wasn't at all prepared for the amount of bleeding afterward... or the amount of discomfort. Icepacks, tucks pads, the ointment they gave me and the spray they gave me truly were my best friends. If I had it to do over again, I would totally steal more ice packs and ointment. We had to order some from our pharmacy... the swelling is ridiculous. Be prepared for the external entry to you vag to swell up to roughly the size of a fist. It took over 3 weeks for the swelling to go away... and I still have some in the between area of my butt/vag area....
I am 4 weeks pp and don't have any more bleeding... but still have some yellowish discharge that is normal. I went through 2 big packs of overnight always ultrathin liners, two packs of regular always ultrathin liners, and then now am on pack 2 of thin tiny pantyliners to catch the remaining discharge.
Now that I am pretty much healed I LOVE ba
ths and sit in a hot one about twice a week. Plain old hot water is great... but I REALLY clean out the tub before hand because I am afraid of bacteria getting up in there. I also like to take the hand nozzle of our shower and rinse down with hot water before bed and when I shower... it makes it feel better and makes me feel less icky. I will say that this healing process brings a whole new meaning to "not so fresh feeling"
I will also say that I have an inkling that my vag is going to be as dry as the Sahara when it comes to sex. Breast feeding dries you out... so we are prepped with lots of sensitive skin lube for when we ARE cleared for action. I have told DH I won't even try it without lubricant assistance until I am done BF'ing. I just am terrifed of pelvic pain mixed with dryness.
More questions, my darling?
Re: For Katie... the facts about my vag...
Ok, so I didn't answer some things when I went back to check....
my stitches were the kind that dissolved. They are just gone.
I bought cute granny panties... as in briefs and boy briefs that had ruffles and crap... because I like good undies... but went back to regular undies of choice (non thong for sure) as soon as out of the overnight pads.
I asked for stool softener at the hospital and stayed on colace until I had pooped for a week.... I was never constipated... made point not to push the poo out and hurt myself.
I will say that you will not get a lot of warning when you have to poo though.. because of the swelling. So sitting on the toilet and "seeing" if you have to poo is an excellent idea after a while.
I didn't have any pain when I pooed... and was very glad. I thank the fact that I had an enema prior to labor and that I took the solace religiously... and ate salads and fibrous foods right away helped a lot withthat.
You CANNOT wipe with tp at all. You rinse with a spray bottle and pat dry until the bleeding stops... this took me 2 weeks. That bottle of warm water is amazing... you really wont want to touch your stuff with tp... believe me.
I was wondering these thing too, so thanks Alice! There are soooo many things no one tells you about pregnancy and the aftermath... I hate how I tell my mom things and she's just like "oh yeah, that happens"

Umm this! This might have nearly pushed me into begging for a csection..spray bottle? dear God..thanks for the warning though, at least we can prepare.
Haha. This!
Me too. But thank you for your honesty and openness!
I just wanted to take an opportunity to say here that if you pour about a cup of water into a newborn sized diaper and then freeze the diaper, it makes a most delightful ice pack. And it's even kinda hoo-ha shaped. And you can TRASH it when it's melted.
We use cloth diapers, but had an entire pack of newborn dipes on hand for this very reason w hen DS was born.
