Preemies

2nd time Mommys (after preemie)

How was the hospital experience for you the second time around? I am almost 30 weeks now, this is around the time that things got bad with DS and I am starting to get really anxious. I feel like I am OK now, but as soon as I get into that hospital I am going to lose it and freak out just by remembering what happened last time. I am a pretty levelheaded person, but I have no idea how I am going to react to all of this again, especially if I start having problems. How did you cope? Was it better this time?

Re: 2nd time Mommys (after preemie)

  • I hope that your second pregnancy goes like mine I had no problems. I had a few flash backs while I was at the hospital. But for the most part I held it together. After the delivery(c/s) I really didn't know what was Normal to expect so that was  a scary part..LOL.

  • It was sooooooooo much better this time! This time I knew what to watch for and was able to be a lot more pro-active with my pregnancy. I did develop pre-e and IUGR, but we knew that it was a possibility and I was watched really carefully. I did have some flash backs as I was wheeled into the OR for my c-section, but it went so much smoother, especially since it was planned. Good luck with you second LO! Wishing you a full 40 weeks!
  • I'm being induced tomorrow so I can let you know after that.  I'm freaking out that even though I'll be 39 weeks, he will still have to go to the NICU for some bizarre reason.  Last night I was convinced he already pooped inside and is going to aspirate the meconium and be unable to breathe.  My sister thinks I'm nuts, but after what DD put us through I can't imagine having a "normal" pregnancy/delivery.

  • (hugs) I hope you make it to term!
  • It has been so much better that it is almost unbelievable.  In a way, it has been a healing experience.

I was really anxious up through delivery, but everything since been great (minus the c/s pain). I was able to nurse her in recovery, we've been rooming in, I get to hold her as much as I want...

The only downside is missing my older daughter who is at home   Also, I would recommend giving your nurse a list of things that might trigger your anxiety.

  • It was so much better the second time... I don't even know that I compared the two at all at the time, just because it was so different!  I just soaked up the wonderfulness of being able to have my baby with me from the moment she was born.  There were some other sucky things again because I got pre-e again, but for the most part, it was WAY better!
