scratching ears & bad breath?

Could this be an ear infection?  She hasn't had a cold, but she's been sticking her fingers in her ears like they itch.  Today her breath smells bad - kinda like she has sinus drainage.  I guess that could make her ears itch too?  At one point over the weekend she had a fever of 100, but now it is normal.  She hasn't slept well all weekend.  We did convert her to a toddler bed last night and she barely slept at all, but she really wasn't sleeping well before we converted the bed.  I'm debating on taking her to the dr.

  • Sounds to me like just allergies/drainage.  I probably wouldn't take her to the dr.

  • I sure hope that's all it is.  DH has been having allergy issues too.  I'll give it a few more days and see.

  • When Ben's breath is especially bad, he usually has at least a sore throat.  With the scratching of the ears and the poor sleep - I would probably take her to the doc if it doesn't improve by tomorrow.  Ben's had double ear infections without ever having a fever.

These were my thoughts. All of my kids have had ear infections without running a fever.  Its possible that its just allergies and the drainage from that is making her throat itchy and sore...and the drainage can also make her mess with her ears.  I took Jeremiah in just last week because of similar symptoms...cranky, not sleeping, messing with ears, etc...and they put him on some allergy medicine and it has really helped.  Good luck!

  • Thanks y'all. Right after I posted this she started acting like she was miserable.  I took her temp and it was high again.  So I took her on in just to be on the safe side.  She has fluid in her ears but no infection.  Red, irritated throat but no strep.  So they said it's just viral.
