What were your signs that your supply was dropping and/or was never up to snuff?
I know what kellymom and the books say about it (# of diapers, satisfaction, weight gain, etc.) but I want to hear how real women discovered low supply.

DS was not gaining weight. Not waking for feedings. Always sleeping at the breast. Never seemed full/satisifed. Never popped off on his own. Never heard lots of swallowing.
The biggest sign was lack of weight gain.
I should have been paying more attention to diaper output, but I wasn't.
I had been told and read over and over that milk supply should not be an issue as long as you nursed frequently. Until he had the weight gain problems I didn't even realize it was an issue. I was just going on blind faith. Not smart.
Our primary sign was issues with weight gain though we also had a sleepy nurser and a baby who never chose to finish a feeding on her own (as there was just never enough!) I was at-risk for low supply due to breast reduction so we had a lot of weight checks scheduled in the beginning. It took starting with 1oz. supplements and then getting to 2 oz. after every feeding to realize how low my supply was.
I knew when we had a weight check and he had only gained 4 oz in 6 weeks. In hind sight he stopped napping around the time my supply started dropping. I thought it was just a phase he was in but really he was hungry, the only time he would nap is after he nursed for a long time and finally got full.

Be very careful though. This post above could have been me and supply is definitely not my issue. We had problems with latching and DS is an insufficient nurser. Once I started to EP, I was able to get my supply up to 40+ oz per day, even though when I realized the problems with DS's nursing, I was barely pumping enough to get him through the day.
Re: How did you know you had low supply?
DS- Wesley- March 14, 2010
He was still signaling he was hungry, even after feeding. We then went to the LC and she weighed him after feeding to be sure how much he was getting.
