I'm not sure what is wrong. For the past few days, my LO cries when I try to nurse him throughout the day. He STTN (8pm-6am) and will eat first thing in the morning, but he cries and gets upset for most of the other feedings. He will typically latch on and suck a few times, latch back on and suck a few times, then pull off and refuse to go back on. I switch sides and he usually does the same thing. My milk supply seems to be fine and I haven't changed anything in my diet. The only real difference I see is that my breasts are very full for the morning feed and not as full throughout the day (slower letdown??).
My husband and I have tried giving him a bottle of breast milk and he is also fussy with that (although my husband finally got him to guzzle down 4 oz when he walked around with him while giving him a bottle...which seems to mean he is hungry). My LO is also constantly putting his fists in his mouth...not sure if its a hunger sign, teething, or just discovering his hands. Any thoughts or suggestions?
TIA!
Re: 3.5mo refuses to eat from breast or bottle
It could be teething, or it could be slow letdown. I would call the pedi to see if there could be something else going on. As a suggestion (which you may already do) I would encourage let down BEFORE latching the baby. Start hand expressing just enough to get the milk there and ready. If letdown is the issue hopefully that will help it. I used to always get "ready" before latching Harris or he would get mad that the milk wasn't right there when he started sucking.
I hope you figure it out soon and everything gets back to normal.
