Sippy of milk?

When did you transition your kids to a sippy of milk and take them off the bottle completely?

Abraham will drink juice out of the sippy (SOMETIMES, lately he just wants to play with it). But milk? No way! He just won't drink it in there. Should I just keep him on a bottle? Or wait until I change his milk and try then?

TIA:)

Re: Sippy of milk?

  • I started doing formula in the sippy around 9 months. A few weeks before she turned 1, i took the bottles away completely.

ditto this. Also I never put whole milk in a bottle so she never tasted it that way.
  • Chelsea started drinking milk at 11 months and shortly after her first birthday she was no longer drinking from the bottle (maybe 13 months).  That's funny how he refuses to drink milk from a sippy. It must taste better in the bottle.. Kids know what they like and don't like.  I say, follow his lead. He's still a baby and if he prefers his milk in a bottle - let him have it! He's so cute btw - love your siggy!

  • I tried around 11 months and she wouldn't do it, so i stopped.  Around 11.5 months, I started switching her to whole milk, half formula half milk at first and that's when I switched her to sippys.  I used the Nuby ones b/c they have the silicone spout which is closest to the nipple on a bottle than the hard plastic ones others sippys have.  She did protest a bit at first but it didn't take very long until she was drinking out of the sippy.  I did have to hold it for her and lay her back like a bottle and I also still gave her a bottle at night before bed.  By 12 months she was drinking milk and no formula and the only bottle was the nighttime one.  I switched that last bottle to a sippy around 14 months.  And I think it was close to 16 months before she would hold it herself. I agree with melly - follow his lead.

  • And I never gave her juice or water in a sippy, she always got those in a straw cup.

  • We've been using a sippy since about 6 months.  It takes some time for them to get used to it.  Matthew is now getting the hang of a straw cup.
