Babies: 0 - 3 Months

when did you take your first bath post-delivery?

My paperwork from the hospital says wait 6 weeks (I'm only 2 weeks PP)but I'm feeling like a good soak would make my lady parts feel way better. Sitz bath isn't doing it for me. Did you wait 6 weeks? It seems like I didn't wait that long after having DS.

Re: when did you take your first bath post-delivery?

  • I remember confessing to a bath at my 2 week checkup....midwife didn't care. and i had 3 different tears if that makes a difference

  • Wow! 6 weeks?? I took one the day after delivery...or maybe it was 2 days after. (It all kind of runs together. :) ). My midwife gave me some bath salts and it was heavenly!

ETA: I had a tiny internal tear- no stitches. I also had a home birth, so I had access to a tub right away.

  • My paperwork said baths were ok. My first bath was 5 days pp when i finally went home

  • I had a c-section, so I haven't yet, but at my hospital they encourage several baths a day for women who delivered vaginally.

  • My nurse told me to wait 2 weeks before I could take a bath.

  • I take a bath almost every day and have since 6 days pp.  My midwife encouraged it (no bubbles, bath bombs, etc though)
  • I took a bath in the hospital (each birthing suite has a Jacuzzi tub) the day after I had DS - the nurses encouraged it.  And I had a 3rd degree tear.

  • too funny I just posted the exact same thing! I am soo taking a bath tonight!!
  • My Dr. suggested taking baths 2 - 3 times a day with epson salts to promote cleaning/healing of the area as soon as I got home.   I took sitz baths in the hospital.
  • I took my first bath at about 4 or 5 weeks. DS had spit up all over both of us and I was alone, with no idea how to get both of us clean... I put just a speck of water in the tub and we got in. I was afraid to get water near my c-section incision. I got my first real soak today and it was 6 weeks exactly yesterday.

  • I took my first bath about 12 hours after delivery.  The nurse had me take a bath instead of taking more pain meds.  When I went home I took 1-2 baths a day.  Those baths in the first 2 weeks were heaven.

  • 4 weeks but I had a c-section.

  • I took a bath as soon as they were done sewing me up! It felt so great! I had blood and meconium all over me after birth and the nurse boiled some herbs to put in the bath to reduce swelling. My midwives are always encouraging me to bathe with my hemmies and stitches...they said it cleans the area without having to actually touch it plus dissolve the stitches. It's very soothing to sit on a towel and relax in a hot bath!!!!
  • I was told a bath is OK just no bubble bath or anything but water in the tub immediately PP.
