I am joining the group of people who prefer to call it anti-choice, rather than pro-life. I guess it is just semantics and politics.
With just about any group/persuasion/movement, etc., the group itself chooses the name they are known by. To say "I'll only call you by your name if I agree with you; otherwise I'm going to make up a name for you with a negative slant" is immature and disrespectful. I get why people are pro-life. I get why people are pro-choice. There are valid concerns and arguments on both sides, and I don't think trying to make a statement by calling people with a different viewpoint "pro-abortion" or "anti-life" or "anti-choice" helps anyone. It just riles people up.
my best friend was raped, and did the right thing and went directly to the hospital like you are supposed to do. they gave her the plan b pill to be taken immediately. i just think there are other options, even if somebody is to get pregnant from being raped, that baby could be given to a couple that can't physically have kids.
There are simply no words for how stupid and naive this post is. Truly.
I agree. This post made me sick to my stomach. But I do I have some words for her. I prosecute rapists and sex offenders and can't tell you how many times I have had idiot jurors think the same thing--"She didn't go to the police right away, so she must be lying." It's people like that who set rapists free. I can tell you that I have interviewed hundreds of rape victims and trust me, there is NO right way to behave after such a violation. I hope this poster never finds out how naive her comment is.
I'm pro-life and anti-death penalty. It's against my beliefs and relationship with GOD to kill HIS innocents or the people HE loves who have sinned against HIM. HE doesn't want any of HIS people to die by the hands of another human being. HE forgives, and HE grieves.
Do you get extra god points for every time you capitalize a pronoun?
It's proper to capitalize GOD and when referring to HIM. It's something I always do. And GOD doesn't count points.
I think when people use it like that they are making a difference between their personal opinion on what THEY would do and their political position on it. Especially in the topic the other day on whether or not having a child impacted their opinions, in which it HEAVILY changed my personal opinion but not my political one.
I dont see why some people have such a big issue with people have a different opinion on whether or not there is a difference. Step off the soap box.
As to those with an issue on "pro life for me, pro choice politically..."
I don't get the problem. If you just ask me my position, I would tell you pro choice. If we had a larger discussion, I might bring up that, for me, that is a decision I wouldn't make but I don't believe that I, or anyone else, has the right to take that decision away from anyone else. It doesn't make me any less pro choice, no more than supporting others rights makes me any more likely to chose abortion for myself. It doesn't mean that I think I am better, or worse, than anyone with a different position; in point of fact, I have a great deal of respect for someone who would be able to make the incredibly difficult decision to spare a child with profound defects that would ultimately result in a mayfly-short life filled with intense pain. I don't think I would be that strong.
There are so many legitimate reasons to be on opposite sides of the fence on this issue, this one just seems ludicrous.

You are either pro-choice or you are not. You either think everyone woman has the right to chose to have an abortion or you don't (regardless of what you personally would do).

Yeah, capitalize. First letter. Not SHOUT it every time.

Lori, it's just a semantics argument. I'm surprised that you of all people don't see that. It has nothing to do with whether someone is better than another.
It is nonsensical to say that one is pro-choice, but pro-life for themselves personally. What that says is that you wish the government to interfere with YOUR reproductive rights, but no one else's. If you're pro-choice, you're pro-choice. You would personally CHOOSE to not have an abortion, but still desire to make that choice yourself.

I recognize a semantic argument when I see one. But just because something is semantical doesn't mean it's not ridiculous. Most semantic arguments are fairly silly.
And no, that's not what it says. You are tied up in political rhetoric. Pro-choice for others means I believe they should have the right to make decisions for themselves. To say that I am pro-life for myself is to say that I have already made that decision for my own body, not at all that I have abdicated that right to someone else. It is beyond puzzling that someone could get to that interpretation.

It's only proper to capitalize the first letter. I'm pretty sure it's not all in caps in the bible.

Black and white arguments make me nutty. Nothing is ever that easy.
I was one of the first to post on the original thread about being pro-life for myself but believing in others rights to make the decision for themselves. I was stating a personal belief not a political stance.

I could do red letters instead, LOL! Either way I capitalize it so that it stands out.
I'd love to see you tell that to a rape victim....
Do you know one?
I got your rape victim right here.
I was one month shy of my 13th birthday when I was raped while I walked home in my Catholic school uniform.
Tell me I should have used birth control, biitch. Go ahead. Tell me.
I'm so sorry this happened to you. That is awful.
However your attack at me by calling me a biitch was a bit pre-mature. 1.) I did not say anything about BC, 2.) I was a rape victim when I was 17. I know the pain and suffering and anger and confusion that goes with it.
