Parenting after a Loss

xp: reaction to gripe water ?

I gave LO gripe water for the 1st time today.  I gave her 1tsp at 1pm and she drank her bottle went to sleep until 4.  She woke up and I gave her another tsp.  I gave her her bottle and she only drank less than an oz.  I held her and she fell asleep.  I put her in her bouncy seat and she has been sleeping since - for like an hour and a half now.  This isnt like her - she normally at least drinks 3 oz every 3-4 hrs.

Did your LO act strange after you gave it to her the first few times?  Im hoping I didnt give her too much or that she isnt having some sort of weird reaction to it.  I know I'm probably overreacting but Im a first time Mommy so everything worrys me.

TIA!!

  • It could be that if she was gassy or had an upset stomach that she's finally comfortable and can rest. I wouldn't worry too much unless you start seeing signs like rash, diarrhea, vomiting...those would be more indicative of a reaction than sleepiness.

  • My LO puked it up immediately, so I've been scared to try giving it to her again (although she probably just puked because she didn't feel good to being with).  Like PP said, hopefully it's just because she's resting up since she feels better.

  • Gripe water worked for us on occasion and usually DS would be more relaxed and sleep because his tummy didn't hurt anymore. I agree that I'd be looking for a rash or vomiting but I'm obviously not a doctor. Keep an eye on her and if your nervous don't give it to her again until you talk to her doctor. I'm Nervous Nelly too so I know what you mean. I still go into DS room to check that he is breathing regularly.

    This was my thought, too.

This would be my guess as well.
