Doc said prozac????

I see a MW with a back-up OB and we determined that it would be in my best interest to get on some medication.  I did a little research and felt zoloft was best since I ebf; however, the doctor told her prozac and wrote the script for that.. after reviewing the info I am really concerned by the choice.  I feel like a brat but I don't think I will take it, and to be honest, I am scared that I won't get the meds I know I need if I refuse what the doc "ordered."

    I didn't bf, so I don't know what meds are best but if I were you I would call your MW and explain your concerns. You should not feel forced or uncomfortable to take a certain medication - that defeats the point! Definitely call.

    I wonder why they went with Prozac? In addition to being safer for BFing, Zoloft is generally considered more effective with fewer side effects for most people.

    Can you call the doc and ask about Zoloft? It should be easy to change your prescription.

    No, Prozac and Zoloft have the same efficacy - there is no antidepressant found to be more effective than any other.

    I take 20mg of prozac (switched from celexa at doc's request before TTC) and took it my whole pregnancy and now while bf'ing.

    I've had no issues at all....
