3rd Trimester

Anyone else measuring 2+ weeks behind?

I went in for my 32 week appt today and after being measured, I asked if everything was good (if I don't ask specific questions, the docs in this practice don't say anything at all).  So, she said I was measuring about 30 weeks.  She said there is no need for concern unless I'm measuring 3 weeks behind.  I know that my due date is accurate, give or take a day.  I asked if there was any reason to do an u/s to check and she said no and practically ran out the door so I couldn't ask any follow up questions.

Is anyone else measuring small? What has your OB said about it?  I'm not super concerned, but I'd feel better if they did an u/s to make sure everything looks okay-- size, fluid level, etc.

Re: Anyone else measuring 2+ weeks behind?

  • I measured 2 weeks behind with DS#1 starting at about 31 weeks.  My OB was never concerned.  DS was induced at 37 weeks (due to decreased fetal movement and heart rate decelerations on NST) and was 6 lbs. 8 oz. at birth, so pretty average for 3 weeks early.  Try not to worry.  Those measurements are not a perfect science.

  • I started measuring 2 weeks behind at my 36 week appointment. They did an u/s to check LOs growth and everything was fine. Doc said I am measuring smaller because LO has dropped and her head is very very low. No need to worry :)
  • I have been measuring about a week to 2 weeks behind consistently, my doc says its nothing to worry about as it is not an exact representation of babies size and that even if it were, they don't all grow at the same rate anyways.

  • I went for my 34 wk appt yesterday and was measuring 32, same as my 32 wk appt. I asked the dr and she said the measurements are +/- 3, which sounds like what your doctor said. So she basically said not to worry unless it was less than 31 or more than 37. Sounds like you're just fine, I'm sure it's difficult for them to get an accurate measurement every time, since everyone's body is different. Just make sure you stay within that plus/minus 3!

  • Since week 33 I've measured consistantly 2 weeks behind. The doctors say that's completely normal since many factors come into play regarding fundal height. +/- 2 weeks is normal. If any more they usual perform some tests.
  • Thanks everyone!
  • i have been measuring 2 weeks behind consistently with fundal height measurement.  the dr. ordered an u/s a few days ago and it showed that baby is right on target.  as you get further along the dr. will probably order an u/s if you havent caught up.  no worries!

  • At my appointment today they said I was measuring 3 weeks behind.  They scheduled an ultrasound for my appointment in 2 weeks, but didn't seem too concerned.  She told me that baby might just be curled up really tightly or she might be tall and skinny like her momma.
  • At my 28 week appt I was only 26 inches which had me a little worried but when I went in for my 30 weeks appt I measued 29 inches (technically I was 29 weeks 6 days). I wouldn't worry too much.  I think it would be more of a concern if you continue to measure small or if the gap gets larger.  Baby might just be getting ready for a growth spurt in the next week or 2.  Mine sure did.

  • I've been measuring a little over 2 weeks behind. My doctor said as long as growth is relatively consistent and LO doesn't fall too far behind it's totally normal.
