3rd Trimester

I'm jealous if you're getting a growth ultrasound :(

I've consistently measured ahead by two or three weeks this entire time but I am not getting a growth ultrasound.  I would LOVE to see the little guy one more time before he arrives (and get a nice little guestimate on how big he is) but nope, I won't get one.

Hmph.  Bummer :(

  • I'm in the same boat as you. I even have a 3 picture frame for 1st, 2nd and 3rd tri ultrasound pics but I have nothing to put in the 3rd tri window. :(

  • Have you asked? Tell them you are concerned about the size. Can't hurt.

I got one with DS when I was past 40 weeks. They might do that to you. They saw then he had low fluid. So with this baby, I had an u/s last week to check for fluid. It was fine, so they will do another one at 36 weeks and probably 38 and 40 weeks too. I only had 3 u/s total with DS1 (8, 20, and 40 weeks). With this one, for various reasons, I've had 6 already! (8, 10, 12, 16, 20, and 30 weeks)

  • I AM I AM...I have my growth u/s tomorrow...yipee!

  • Will they do one if you ask?

  • I can completely relate! At my 34 week appointment I asked the doctor when my next US would be and she told me I will not be getting any more... I just assumed I would get one later in the pregnancy to determine approximate size and position but nope. None for me either :-(

A good hard squeeze to the bottom of my belly told her that LO's head is in the right position and thats all I get.

  • Well, I'll tell you what... you can have mine!!!! Not that I don't love seeing him, but I'm tired of crappy insurance copays and having to pay each time I have something done.

My Dr keeps saying I'll get another US @ 30-32 weeks. I can wait a couple extra weeks and just see him in person :)

  • I just had one today -the girls are measuring 3#5oz and 3#6oz and both were practicing their breathing.  It's getting to look like just a jumble of body parts though since they're so smushed together.  lol

That is one of the upsides of twins - LOTS of u/s!

  • You can have one of mine!!  I am jealous of everyone that has a normal, un-eventful pregnancy!  I am high risk due to a chronic health condition, and I have an u/s every time.  Don't get me wrong, I love being able to see LO, but next week I will start going twice a week for Bio-Physical Profiles.  At 31 weeks, twice a week appts really starts to get to be much by the end of the pregnancy!
  • The downside to getting all the growth u/s is that I'm high risk, and I've been on hospital bedrest for over a week now with preeclampsia.  I haven't seen my little girl (the 3 year-old one) since Saturday.  I won't get to see her again until Sunday.
  • You can have one of mine.  I'm high risk and it seems every time the do an u/s they find something wrong.  It's making me crazy.  Laying there while they try to get all the measurements on LO is no fun.  She looks so squished and uncomfortable in there.  Feet in the face does not look comfy!  Soon enough we will be holding our outside babies.

It does get quite spendy. 15+ ultrasounds have cost more than my college education. But I do love seeing him.

  • i had one because the dr. was worried that he was not growing.  you really could not see anything since he is so squished in there!  (mine was on tues.)  u arent missing anything!

  • I was told by the moron nurse and the receptionist at 20 weeks that there were no more ultrasounds. But I just kept asking, and finally the midwife was like 'oh yeah there's a 28 week and a 36 week growth ultrasound. You better call the perinatologist quick.'

    So, I would keep asking.

  • Not to be a B!tch, but I got a growth ultrasound because my baby hasn't grown for 4 weeks, which means there's an increased chance I could have stillbirth, and that I have to be induced instead of going naturally... the last thing I was thinking about during that U/s was--- "oh yay, baby girl!" it was "Oh crap, I hope she's okay." You'll see your baby soon enough, and in the meantime, you know LO is healthy.
  • I'm surprised they aren't doing one since you're measuring ahead. I have been ahead 2-3 weeks all along as well so I am having a size ultrasound at 38 weeks (on Monday).. But for me it might be because they are concerned about my family history of cephalopelvic disproportion and shoulder dystocia.. hmm.. I would ask!

  • I am, but from what I've heard, they aren't as cool as the earlier ones. You only can see like one body part at a time. I'm still excited to see my LO but I wish I could see all of her like before!
  • You can't see anything anyways.

Don't be jealous I have had 3 in the last 3 days and had to be  admitted to L&D because of problems they found... I will have at least one per week until she's here.

  • Aww, I completely understand, but don't be jealous. Two weeks ago I had a routine growth ultrasound & there was a 'bright spot' on DD's bowel. Turns out it was nothing (took 2 weeks to get the blood tests back) but they were concerned about Cystic Fibrosis & all other sorts of scary stuff. For no reason. They think it's b/c I'm so "skinny" (I've gained 20 lbs so far) that the spot showed up. I wish we wouldn't have even had one.
  • I have GD, so I have had 1 growth us at 30 weeks and another next week. I would gladly give them to you and be able to eat a bowl of flipping cereal and not worry about having a 35 lb baby.

  • Same here!

But I finally get to see my new OB this coming week and I'm hoping she gets curious and wants to order one.
