Does this sound like a boy or girls name

My husband loves the name Luca.  To me it sounds feminine.  He is Italian and I know the name is very popular among Italian males.  But I know in America a lot of parents use it for girls.  What do you think when you hear it, I want to make sure it sounds like a boys name.....

Thanks

  • Honestly, I think it sounds neutral.

  • When I read Luca I automatically thought, tall dark handsome and Italian...my first reaction is definitely boy.
  • I know a little girl named Luca.  She is the cutest little thing.  Before her though I thought it was a boy's name.
  • I think of it as a boys name

  • I have a boy cousin that lives in Italy who's name is Luca, but I think it sounds feminine.

I do like the name :)

  • It would make me think of a boy.  How about Luke?

  • I think Luca is a boys name. The first and only Luca I've met was in high school and it was a male. I know just because it ends in an "a", we automatically think girl but there are a few names out there that end in an "a" that are boys:  Isaiah, Elijah. Well, they end in "h" but it sounds like an "a".  The Luca I knew was Italian also.

  • Luca sounds masculine to me.

  • Even in Italy names that end with an "a" are typically girl names, BUT there are exceptions like Andrea  and Luca which over there are 100% male

I say go with it if you love it!

  • It reminds of the Suzanne Vega song from the 1980s, "Luka." I always thought she was singing about a girl, but I don't really know why. I suppose it could be masculine, maybe.

  • I loooove the name Luca! And it's definitely a boy's name to me. For example, UBERHOT Luca Toni...

  • I think of that song My Name is Luca - so I think girl automatically, but when I stop and think - it's really pretty neutral.

  • ok, i just love the last post, girlintheworld.

OK, I thought girl- but only because I've heard it as a girls name, not a boys name. It sounds like a great boys name though, and who cares what people think, I love that its different! Big Smile

  • Boy.

It reminds me of the male doctor on ER.

I thought the same, until I saw the video and Luka was played by a young boy.  I instantly thought of that song when I read the OP's comment.

"My name is Luka, I live on the second floor, I live upstairs from you, yes, I think you've seen me before..."
