Does this sound more like a boy or girl name?

Re: Does this sound more like a boy or girl name?

  • I have a similar dilemma...don't know the sex of my baby yet, but we've decided on Ava Elizabeth for a girl and Emerson James for a boy.  Apparently several people have named their daughters Emerson, and I distinctly think it's a boy's name.  I don't suppose it matters.  Most names are gender-neutral nowadays. :)

  • Every Jayden I know is a boy, there are alot of unisex names out there and Jayden may be one of them.
  • I immediately thought "boy" when I first read your name. If ours is a girl, we're naming her Hayden or Haedyn and everyone I talk to says that's a boy's name, but we don't care! Unisex names are my favorite!
  • I have a 14 yr old brother named Jaydon.  I don't see it as a girl's name at all!
  • I have a nephew named Jaden and a friend's daughter is named Jaydynn.  I think it's a unisex name.

In my opinion (not that it really matters), putting a "y" in Jaden makes it more feminine.  But it works either way!

  • I have one friend that named her baby girl Jadyn and another friend that named his baby boy Jayden.  So I think it can go either way.
  • I know 3 BOYS named Jayden--no girls.  I have also seen it in two baby naming books/websites as BOY names.  Hope this helps!  You should feel confident about the name you choose no matter what.  Others will think what they will think.  Anyone may have biased opinions because they know of/heard of a girl/boy with that name??  LOVE the name and cheers to your little miracle!  :)
  • I think it sounds more like a boy name.  And a very good one at that!  Wink

  • In my opinion, Jayden is deffinately a boys name (a very cute one at that!).  I've only known boys with that name, even a boy in my family!  Good choice!

  • I personally know 2 Jayden's and they are both boys! Congrats! I'm having a boy too, not sure of a name yet.

  • I'm a teacher and all the Jaidons I've known (a few) have ALL been boys :)
  • I considered this name for our lo due in Sept (We don't know what it is). At the time we were talking girls names. I like it for a girl but my husband says it's a boys name. So I guess it's really a neutral name.
  • Britney Spears made the name popular when she named her son Jayden. I always think of a boy when I hear it.  It goes along with the Aiden/Caden/Hayden/Brayden trend, all boys names to me.

  • I'll admit that it does first strike me as a girls name, but I think that has a lot to do with how you are spelling it.  I think Jayden for a girl and Jadon for a boy.

    Congratulations!!

  • Defiantly a boys name. I just found out we are expecting a boy and Jayden is my first choice.
  • I know a guy named jayden.  I think it could be girly if it was spelled Jaiden.  Cute name either way.  Although we are naming our LO Charlee (like Charlie). =)
  • And Charlee is  girl.
  • the only jayden i know is a boy so i would say you are good:)
  • The only Jayden's I know and/or heard of are boys.

  • I'm a teacher and I've known one little girl named Jayden, but most Jayden's are boys as are Aiden, Brayden, Caden, etc.
  • I'm a teacher and this name is VERY popular right now.  I see about a 50/50 split between girls and boys with this name.  If the trans-gender thing doesn't bother you, go for it.  The 'en' ending for names (espeically boys) is also really popular too (e.g, Austin, Kayden, Preston, Braden, etc.).  One classroom of 13 kids has 7 children with 'en' sounding endings on their names.
  • I knows both boys and girls named Jayden.  There are different spellings too.  I know a Jaydon (boy) and a Jadan (girl).  I also know a JaeLynne.  I have what was commonly a boy's name when I was born. My name is Traci and my mom spelled it with an 'i' so everyone could tell that it was for a girl.  There are some many names out there that can be either a girls name or a boys name.  Dana used to be exclusively a boys name, now look, it's a girls name.  Go with whatever name you want, who cares what others say.  And oh yeah, I know a Ryan who is a girl and a Rory who is a boy.
  • I know 3 boys and one girl named jayden

to me its a boys name

  • Every Jayden I've know has been a boy. But, don't worry about what everyone else thinks. If you love it, go for it! :)
  • I'm a teacher and I have had two students named Jaden and Jaiden that were boys. We also have a little girl in the toddler room named Jayden. The "y" makes the name more feminine in my opinion, but this is a unisex name in my baby names book and a beautiful one, too!
  • I think a boys name. I actually like, this name. My friend has a boy named Jayden. For a girl I have heard more Jayda s than Jayden s.

  • I think it can be either. I know a girl named Jayden and a boy. Just depends on you! Either way its really cute! Congrats!!

We get the same thing with baby #2, she is on the way and she name is Olivia but her middle name is going to be Chase, people tell us all the time that thats a boy's name. It can be either I feel! :)

  • Well, since my 9 month old son is named Jayden, I'm gonna go with it sounds like a boy's name...  When my husband and I were thinking of names I had never heard of any one naming their child Jayden, now the name is everywhere!!!  Go for it, Jayden is a wonderful name.
  • I def think Jayden is a boys named. A very cute one at that. My DH and I are getting a similar reaction because we like the name Brody for a boy.

  • boy, jay for short.  Yes
  • I think it sounds like a girls name personally, but I do know a few boys with that name.  I think it it socially a gender nutral name.

  • First and only thought:  BOY!  I happen to know someone w/ a son name Jayden but it doesn't even remotely ring "girl" to me...haven't heard of any girls w/ the name either.
  • Yes, I would assume that Jayden is a girls name.  Especially spelled this way.  Not a fan of the name for either sex.
  • I know a little girl named Jayden so I initially think girl.  But I like it for a boy too.  I say don't worry about what others say.  If you like it, go for it.

  • I know both a girl and boy with that name.  The only difference is that they boy's name is spelled Jaydon, with an "o" instead of an "e".
  • When I hear Jayden I think of a boys name.

  • My daughter was just born and we named her Aiden. I know it is typically a boy name, but I think it is beautiful for a girl. I can sympathize about the gender confused comments, but as long as you're happy with your choice, I wouldn't let other people's opinions get to you.
  • My cousin had a girl named Jaden Ryan last year. I had to read the letter from grandma several times before I believed it cause, i'd never heard of naming a girl like that.

To me it will always be a boy's name.

  • We are having twin boys and naming one of them Jayden.  I have had people tell me that by spelling it with a "y" it makes it more masculine.  I am a school teacher and have two Jaden's in school now. . . one girl, one boy.  But to me, it's definately a boy name!
