I had my 19 1/2 week ultra sound today at the peri's office, everything was going great both babies are doing and looking good. So then the doctor comes in and says that for Baby A (girl) it looks like there is some backed up fluid in her kidneys, and this means that there is a slight increase risk of down syndrome, he wanted to know if we did the geneitic screening, I told him no. He said that they will just watch it and see what happens. I called my OB to get his analysis on the results but it's too early and they haven't recieved the information yet. So I'm waiting on them to call me back.
Has this happened to anyone else? A fluid backed up in the kidneys? If so what happened? TIA
Re: Fluid backed up in Baby A's kidneys
DS had an enlarged kidney at a later u/s (I think I was like 28ish weeks - they were checking to see if my placenta had moved away from my cervix). They scheduled another u/s at maybe 34 weeks and it had resolved. The way they explained it, was all they would really do would be to have us meet with a pediatric nephrologist prior to DS being born.
I hope it ends up being nothing for your baby girl too
At 20 weeks baby B's kidney was dialated, they watched it via ultrasound...at 29 weeks they were both very dialated. Now at 33 weeks they were all cleared up.
I asked my peri about it being a down's marker and she said it is a very "soft" marker, not even worth discussing unless there are other markers present...
