I never thought I would be at this place, mentally, begging to be induced. In the last week I have been diagnosed with PUPPS and holy cow, I am itching EVERYWHERE. In between my toes, and other cracks (sorry TMI) even my lady business is ichy, I can't imagne going with this any longer, my skin is so raw and in spots bleeding. Dr wants me to take castor oil tonight and come in tomorrow. I am already 4cm and 80 percent effaced, what else can I do.. My feet even itch and they are extremely swollen to boot so a long walk might be out, i have to see maybe later tonight when it is cooler out.
I am using cortisone and aveeno oatmeal lotion and cold compresses and showers, any other advice? I am not sleeping, clothes suck, and I think I am offically done working (but my boss does not seem to understand why) I even showed him a portion of my stomach that looks like it was ravaged by red ants.. ugh..
I was in no rush to get my baby out, and have generally had the attitude that he will come when ready and that is that. I wanted med free but realize that if induced that might not be possible, I am just at the point where I am selfishly wishing to stop itching, and having the baby is what will make it stop. (hangs head in shame)
Re: I have lost my mind.... Sign me up for an induction. Long vent..
I had PUPPs with DD. Do not hang your head in shame, anyone who has not been through that really can't comprehend what it's like...I remember wanting to claw my skin off.
As far as advice, check out https://www.naomikritzer.com/motherhood/PUPPP.shtml. There's a ton of remedies that real PUPPs sufferers have submitted (in other words, they worked for someone, different things work for different people). The one that worked for me was the Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap one on there. It's described in detail, but basically it involves taking 3 cold showers a day using the soap, and then lotion afterwards to keep your skin from drying out, with anti-itch lotion in between. I used to do it in the morning before I'd leave, right when I got home, and last thing before bed, and for me it actually *cleared* the PUPPs and took induction off the table as a last resort. If nothing works, do what you have to do, PUPPs is misery.
I am so sorry. I know I've read that using a breastpump can help trigger labor as well- maybe ask your doctor about that. I think it's good to try castor oil before a regular induction, but if it doesn't work, I (and I think everyone else) understands you getting induced.
I hope you get some relief soon!!! Good luck with everything.
ITA to everything she said! I have heard some really awful stories about using castor oil as a way to bring on labor - it essentially makes you crap your brains out and could possibly dehydrate you. I would hate to hear how you're going through the misery of the PUPPS and diarrhea and contractions all at once (if it even sends you into labor at all). But since you're already 4cm, your cervix is favorable for a regular induction - you might want to ask if your doctor will just go ahead and induce you.
Good luck! I have not had PUPPS in either of my pregnancies (yet), but I have heard how absolutely horrid it is and how miserable it makes you, so my heart truly goes out to you. I hope you're able to get past this quickly! (((HUGS)))
i know this sounds nuts, but in my Bradley class they say that nipple stimulation and thumb sucking (wtf??) will induce labor.
anything is worth a try right??
good luck!
I'm so sorry to hear that! No shame in wanting to get past that. I'm confused about your dr telling you to take castor oil though, I've heard that it causes your baby to have bloody poo. Anyone else? I've just heard it's really not all that safe and just an OWT.
Good luck, I hope you get some relief SOON!
I'm so sorry. That sounds horrible. I hope the itching is over soon and that you get to just enjoy your LO soon.

This! God Luck hun, I couldn't imagine....
