and it stopped your contractions - did it stop them for good? ie: did you then go into labor at a "normal" (or more normal) time? or did it stop them for a day or so and then come back?

I haven't had this, but wanted to share an interesting OB tidbit.
My OB said at this point (34-35wks) they won't stop labor, and that more and more studies are showing that trying to stop labor doesn't work well. He said they are starting to let even 26-28 weekers give birth since it shows the drugs don't help much anyway. I had no idea...
It stopped them until the next dose. I had preterm labor around 34 weeks and had to take it until I made it to 35/36 usually 2 times a day. I can't remember....

lol my very non-conservative dr stopped contractions last night. (i was shocked)
but to be fair, my body seemed to respond very well? so 2 shots and i went home.
BUT if what you say is true - then thats why i think "ok so will that just last a day or so and then my body will do what it wanted to anyway?"
It didn't do much good, but it's kind of complicated for me. I continued to contract regularly, but my body just needs weeks and weeks of contractions, apparently. I did it with my second, no terb, and didn't go into labor until I was "helped along" a little bit.
It can have a good effect with some, and isn't enough for others--it just depends.

I wonder why they stopped labor? I mean, yes, it's early, but not crazy early. I hope you don't encounter further issues!!
It depends on the OB/Peri. My sis was in PTL from18 weeks on. She had major issues because the practice couldn't agree on how to treat and split in the middle of her pregnancy. Some didn't want to admin drugs and some did. Oddly, the "old-school" doc she had that gave drugs had a 95% success rate of healthy outcome. The others were closer to 80%. My niece was born at 34 weeks and is doing great today. The terb did not stop my sister's contractions for good.
I'm high risk but my doctor (on paper) will not stop labor after 34 weeks.
I had my son at 32 weeks, and we tried to stop labor, but when it didn't work we let nature take it's course. I agree with the PP that sometimes the drugs work right away and they work well, and with other people (like me) the doctors could just tell in that situation that they were not going to work, so they stopped pumping me full of meds.
well i already got it. lol and i didnt have any of the shakes or irregular heartbeat or anything. but now i shall go look up more!!

Yes I had it at 31weeks 3 days. It held off until delivery on 34 weeks 3 days. I had minor contraction for those 2 weeks. But the last week before delivery they were REALLY there. My MW said they would not stop labor at 34 weeks....and here we are

They didn't give you pills? I had the shots and pills, yuck. I definitely wouldn't get another shot

I'm really surprised, too. At my 36 week appt. they thought I was leaking fluid (I wasn't) and the midwife said if it was my water, they wouldn't do anything. She said "you're early, but barely. You don't have much to worry about if this is it."
My friend who is due the same week as me had terb. two weeks ago. She had two shots and hasn't had any contractions since then. She could still go early, of course, but so far, so good.
That's what my OB said-- he said you need to consider the mother's health vs. the baby's health. At some point, it's more detrimental to the mother than it is helpful for the baby.
I have IC and went into PTL at 23 weeks. I first started off on the pills but after ending up in the hospital at 28 weeks and on magnesium I was switched to the terb pump. My doctor took me off the terb pump at 35 weeks and my water broke 2 days later.
GL and hopefully that baby will cook a little longer.

I had terb at 34 weeks to help "stall" labor; I was contracting 3-5 min apart. It worked for 3 weeks until my body started to go into labor again (but stalled out on its own again) and then my water broke at 39w, 3d.
I ended up with a c/s because DS wouldn't drop. Go figure.
I contracted from 18 weeks on and delivered my twins at 38 weeks. I was on a constant terb drip in my thigh 24/7 from week 25 +.. My high risk OB put me on it and I was on bedrest at home for 4 months (sounds like fun, huh?) It def. slowed them down and they didn't come as frequently but they were always there...I do believe it helped it keeping my girls in full term..

I had preterm labor with DS and was medicated from about 32 weeks till about 35/36 weeks. I wanted to stop the meds at 34 weeks, my docs 36, we spilt the difference and I stopped at 35 weeks.
I am not shocked that they stopped the contractions at 36 weeks in hopes of getting your baby a few more days (hopefully weeks) or growth. The latest articles I have been reading indicated that doctors are really trying to reduce the number of late premies (between 34 and 37 weeks). Certain hospitals in IL and Indiana have started to admit all late premies to the special care nursery for at least 24 hours after birth and not allowing the babies and mothers to go home early ( by law in IL you cannot be forced out of the hospital till 2 days after the birth, so 3 days total). Currently the readmit rate (due to complications like jaundice and trouble breathing) is very high for late premies. The studies being done at these hospitals (they started the practice about a year ago) are showing dramatic reductions in readmits, the initial hospital stay is a bit longer though (averaging 3 days instead of 1 or 2).

Yes. It stopped them. I went into labor at 31 weeks, and didn't go into labor again until I was 39 weeks, 3 days.
Then again-- I was on strict bedrest until 37 weeks.
Punky try not to stress, at 36 weeks it should be smooth sailing for Reese. I'm surprised that they even gave you anything. Smaller hospitals without a NICU will usually stop up until about 34/35 weeks and larger more up to date will not usually stop after 32 weeks.
What's done is done so no need to dwell on it. Anyway I had the terbutaline and mag and a million other things and DD is totally fine. The way the doc explained it to me is that if it's just your uterus "acting up" it will calm them and they may stop completley, but if your body is ready for labor for whatever reason the contractions will come back. Every day the baby stays in is two less days it will be in the NICU so even if it hold off labor for a few days that's great.
The terb did not stop my contractions at all. It slowed them for about thirty minutes and then they came on stronger and my water broke. They put me on mag and they still didn't stop. They said I would most likely deliver that day. I was up all night and they ended up giving me a muscle relaxer at around 8 am to help me fall asleep. I woke up a few hours later and the contraction had slowed and become less intense.
I lasted two more weeks with mild to moderate contractions. I would maybe start researching the steroids. Some camps are all for them and some don't give them after a certain amount of weeks. 36 is pretty close to term, so I don't know if Reese would need them. I got them w T and she was able to breathe completley unassisted at 32 weeks.
I started taking Terb at 35 weeks for PTL. I went in for swelling, and when I was hooked up to the monitor, I was having timetable contractions (which I was mistaking for BH). I was on Terb for a week and a half. I stopped taking them Wednesday evening. My water broke Friday morning at 4:45 a.m. I had extremely bad contractions that entire Thursday. So, as soon as I got off, my contractions started right up again. I'm not sure if this is typical or not. Anna was born at 37 weeks.
ETA: BTW, I was on the pills. I had the shots at the hospital and started the pills the next day. I really hated the way it made me feel - super jittery, like I'd had 2 pots of coffee.
