Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Please recommend safe spoon for 6 month old!

I want to find a spoon that my LO can hold and use but that she can't shove too far in her mouth. Any suggestions?

  • My friend has this toddler spoon for when DD is over at her house. I am no help b/c I do not know the brand.

  • I let my DD feed herself and play with her baby spoons all the time. She's never even tried to put it all the way in her mouth. Maybe give her a normal baby spoon and just see if it's even an issue.

She puts the baby spoon way too far in her mouth and we have to fight her to pull it out/away... Ahh!

  • Eh. She puts it in too far, she gags, she laughs, and tries again.
  • Baby Human - can be used left or right handed, is naturally curved to make coordination easier, is all rubber, and has stoppers to it can't be put too far in the mouth. Comes in a pkg of 2.

  • We let her start playing with regular spoons at just 6 months old. One of her favorite toys and she still loves 'em. Seriously, a spoon will make her smile when she is cranky and refusing all her other toys.  She has occasionally "gagged" herself with it, but learned pretty quickly how far was too far.

  • We got these as a gift:

Pricey, but our lo LOVES chewing/teething on them. I like that they are all rubber. I think you can get them on amazon as well.

  • I'd just let her use whatever spoon you have.  If she gags, it will teach her not to push it back so far.  I can't see her actually choking on a spoon.

I feed DD with the Gerber metal spoons with the rubber coating on the bowl.    They're the only ones that are small enough for her mouth.  I let her play with the plastic Take and Toss baby spoons they sell at Target and some other plastic todder (with the short handle) spoons.
