I've heard nothing but amazing reviews. I'm planning to make one. 5 yards of jersey/cotton, stretchy enough, but not too stretchy, cut once or twice lengthwise (depending on the width) so you'll actually get more than one out of that 5 yards.
Wow! That's impressive...I'm not sure if I have the talent to make one...what kind of sewing is involved? And 5 yards by how many? Um and what do you mean cut once or twice lengthwise? LOL Sorry, I'm sooo not the crafty type! But making one sounds much more economical!
I loved it early on! DD would nap forever if I wore her and it was great for nursing. It takes a few times to get the tying on right, but after you figure it out then it's easy We didn't use it much after about 3 months though.
I completely LOVE my Moby wrap. It does make me look like a Jedi warrior when I put it on, but it is awesome. I got mine at a resale shop for $30. Target also has them online for $39.99.

I bought a less expensive version at BRU (I am so not crafty). It was made by Parents of Invention - not sure how much it cost. I LOVE it. Total lifesaver when DS was little and fussy.
Here are some directions on this blog. She used 6 yards, but in most of the instructions I've read they recommend 5 yards, and that will fit even large men comfortably.
No sewing! The type of fabric needed for a moby is non-fray. It will roll a bit at the edges, but it won't fray or tear. A lot of friends have made their own and swear by them. I'm planning to make mine this summer so I can practice before my belly gets too big.
OMG!!! Bwaaaaaaahhhhh ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!! I KNOW that chick! She is a super talented local baby photog, and all around awesome person. That is too funny!
I think the Mobys are quite ugly and I wanted a cuter one but didn't feel like sewing last summer. Look into "loveyduds" seller on etsy. I used my wrap every day for the first 4 weeks, and really frequently for the next 6 and it held up great. It's just a piece of jersey cotton fabric with a cotton panel sewn over the front, but it is much nicer looking than the typical moby.

As long as it's comfortable and serves it's purpose, I don't care what it looks like.
love it-totally worth it-wore DS for 12 hours a day some days in the beg. That's cool that some made theirs's-but the fabric the real Moby Wrap is just perfect and just the right stretch...it's not just plain ole cotton...
:sneaking in from 3-6: I absolutely adore my Moby! My daughter went through a really bad colicky period, and I'm pretty sure I would have gone insane if I wasn't able to wear her. She literally would scream anytime she was not eating if someone wasn't holding her. In the Moby, she would either just hang out or, more frequently, sleep very soundly. I was able to wash dishes, clean, or just sit and watch TV with it. I highly recommend getting one!
Try Craigslist for a used one, or I believe there is a board called Swap Spot or something like that.

This is what I did!
The Moby is the BEST thing ever. I used mine until S was about 6 1/2 months old. I could still use it, but she doesnt really like it anymore. She is to mobile.
