I think the active was designed for heavier children fpr a longer period of time (even though you can carry little ones in it) so it should have more back support -- did you check the website? they have a comparison guide
If you are planning to get an active, I really suggest researching the other carriers. The Ergo, Beco, etc aren't much more but are much better reviewed.

I agree with this. If you're going to be using it a lot, and actively, get the Ergo. I promise your back will thank you for it

Except, and I could be wrong, I was under the impression that the Ergo is for inward-facing kids only. My DS hated facing me, so the Bjorn was a lifesaver. He loved looking out. I have heard great things about the Ergo, but this would be a dealbreaker for us.

If you prefer the outward front-facing, you may want to look at the Pikkolo. I just know I have heard that the Baby Bjorn is bad for the baby's spine. I haven't research this since we use an Ergo, but I think it was mentioned on the Attachment Parenting board. HTH!

Yes, this is true. However, you can also use the Ergo as a hip carrier (which is how my son loves to ride) as well as a backpack carrier as well.

I believe beco also has a carrier that will face out now (but to be honest facing out is not really good for your back at all - a hip carry is much better for you and the baby if you want them to look out).
Re: Which carrier--Baby Bjorn active or original?
