DD won't drink cow milk!

I have been trying for the past 2 or 3 weeks and she HATES it! She even makes a sour face after she tastes it like "eww" and she never does that. She is EBFed and I have heard it is harder with them b/c BM tastes better. I have tried adding a little chocolate syrup to it, doing half BM/half milk, and I keep giving it her plain too. I do one sippy cup a day and she will only take a couple sips so some days I just don't even bother. How am I going to get her to drink cow milk? I would like to wean in a 2-3 months.

Re: DD won't drink cow milk!

  • DD was the same way we ended up mixing strawberry keifer with whole milk (at first 50/50) then slowly added less and less until it was all whole milk.

  • DD wouldn't drink milk until about 3 months after she was totally weaned. She still really doesn't like it. Maybe drinks 5 ounces a day, max.

You can wean her without her drinking milk. It's not vital to her health. As long as she eats cheese/yogurt, and other sources of calcium and good fat, she is fine.

  • DD won't drink milk from a cup, she makes that nasty face every time, warm, cold, hard sippy, soft sippy... put it in a bottle and she downs it. I don't get it!
  • Start mixing with a little at a time. Work ur way to half and half...

  • I used bottles because I knew he was more likely to drink from those than a sippy cup. It took me 2 months to get DS to drink cow's milk instead of my milk. DS' grandma mixed sugar into his milk and gave it to him warm and got him to drink a big bottle while watching tv. So i did the same thing for a couple weeks. After that, I cut the sugar down to very little and started to not use the tv. He now is obsessed with milk .. which is a problem in the middle of the night!
  • I mix Carnation Instant Breakfast powder (vanilla) in DD's milk & she loves it.  It's sweet, like BM, and has loads of vitamins.  I'm slowly adding less to wean her off of it.
