Postpartum Depression

Antidepressants and nervousness

Hi-

Anyone have pretty bad anxiety, not about anything in particular, that was helped with meds?  I have been battling sudden anxiety for almost 2 months and didn't want to take anything, but know now that I am going to have to....did the meds work?  I wake up very nervous and have just a nervous stomach, no appetite at all, etc. Sometimes it lessens in the evenings, but rarely do I get an appetite.  Will antidepressants work for this feeling? I am talking with a therapist and being watched for thyroid issues, but won't know anything on that front for a few more weeks, unfortunately.

But I can't continue to deal with this anxiety.  I feel spaced out some times and I just can't focus on anything else because I am just nervous all.the.time for no reason.  I have no thoughts running through my head, just being nervous.

I did take Lexapro one day but it made me jittery/agitated and nauseous, and I dry heaved the next morning and I never took it again.  Normal? Will it get better? Anyone have any insight?  Thank you.

  • I was on Lexapro for my depression/anxiety - it worked wonders for me. It takes a week or so for the full effect to kick in. I would give it another shot - take it with a meal and play around with the time of day you take it to find a balance.

  • Was your anxiety anything similar to mine?  Maybe I should start with a half-dose and move up?
  • What I'm experiencing is very similar to what you described. I don't feel "depressed", just nervous/anxious for no apparent reason. It's the worst when I wake up in the morning, and lessens through the day. Usually by evening I'm fine.

The doctor tried me on zoloft, but I had a bad reaction, so now I'm trying lexapro. I've been on it for almost a week now and I'm starting to notice a difference. I felt a bit "on edge" for the first few days and it made me very sleepy, but that has gone away.

I have an appointment with a psychiatrist soon who will evaluate me and make sure I'm getting the right meds/dose (my OB is the one who gave me the lexapro).

Hope you find something that works for you!

    Hi Homebird-

Do you ever have the weird detached feeling with your anxiety?  I can't eat and sometimes feel like I am just going through the motions, not in the moment, like my vision isn't quite right during those times.  Anything like that for you?  What dosage of lexapro are you on?  I am wondering if I should start with a half dose and work up.

Very similar - except that my anxiety worked up during the day (I was ok in the mornings but a mess at evening/night).

Did you feel detached, like you were just so preoccupied with something else?  Did the meds help that feeling and being more with it? I so appreciate your help and input.

Yep - sure did feel like that. I was in a fog for a while. The first few days on any medicine will be an adjustment for your body - I was on 10mg to start and that seemed like the perfect dose for me. I really felt a difference within a few days.

Yes, I definitely felt detached. I'm on 10 mg of lexapro right now. I started noticing a difference just a few days ago, but when I first started taking it I felt really edgy, irritated and tired. All that went away though.
