3rd Trimester

How long after birth.....

before you can begin doing more intense workout routines?

I am just sitting here on the couch watching tv and surfing the net feeling the fattest and most unhealthy i have ever been and am almost looking forward to being able to do somethin about it.

How long before I can get intense in my daily workout?

Re: How long after birth.....

  • After my c-section, I was cleared for exercise after 6 weeks.  I'd let everything drop (exercise wise) during pg b/c of several instances of spotting, etc.  At 8 weeks, I tried one of my old videos and it hurt so I stopped.  Tried again the next week and was able to gradually work my way back up.  I'd say by 5 months pp, I was doing the same level of activity I was prior to being pg.  Just remember you'll also be exhausted & with how much DS was nursing at first, exercise really wasn't high on the priority list for me.  This time, I'm in much better shape even now and hope that I'm able to resume activity quicker.

  • I would ask your doctor the next time you see him or her.  I would think within a couple of months you could start working out again regularly, but that doesn't mean you can't go for walks.

  • I was cleared at 4 weeks after my c-section but working out hurt my BM supply so I had to back off until I weaned at 11m.
  • I plan on working out little by little just as soon as I get home from the hospital. I've been very lucky that I've only gained about 19 pounds this entire pregnancy, but I've got my DH's 15 year High School Reunion in November that I need to be ready for ;-).
  • I would guess 6 weeks min. But everyone's gonna be different.

The vague answer is whenever your doctor clears you.
