Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Did you enjoy being pregnant?

Last night someone posted - I think on 1st Tri - something about not enjoying her pregnancy.  She basically was flamed for it, which I thought was a bit excessive.  I, for one, didn't enjoy being pregnant.  Of course I was thrilled to be having a baby and tried for 10 months to get pregnant - I just didn't like the actual physical part of being pregnant, aside from a few things here and there, like feeling her kick.  Of course I would do it again in a heartbeat - and will, hopefully in a couple of years.  I just don't see anything wrong with saying you don't enjoy pregnancy.

So... did you enjoy being pregnant?

  • I enjoyed being pregnant.  It was only at the very end...the last few weeks, that I was uncomfortable.  The rest of the time, I loved it!

  • I loved being pregnant! I had GD and that was a little hard to deal with at first but I always felt great and really had no complaints.
  • I loved being pregnant......I think that's why I did it again so quickly.  I had a pretty easy uneventful pregnancy.  Other than the tired, sore, normal aches everyone has.

  • For me it just depended on the day.  Some days I loved it ... others not so much.

Right around 34 weeks until the end I was miserable.

  • I did enjoy it. I actually really miss being pregnant. But I had a pretty easy pregnancy and no other kids, so I got to put my feet up plenty and rest.

I loved being pregnant so much that I would probably do it again, except that I had a C-section that was just a terrible experience and now I'm afraid of having another one!

  • No. It effing sucked. It hurt like a mother. I had really bad sciatica and would just randomly fall down. Not my idea of a good time.

Of course at the time we didn't have chiropractice coverage, but now we do, so for our next LO I've heard a weekly adjustment does wonders and hopefully I'll enjoy my next pregnancy.

  • There were things I loved about being pg (feeling J kick) and things I hated (RLS was awful).

  • I am the same as you. I was VERY grateful to be pregnant and mostly enjoyed the kicking. But all the other physicalities of it stressed me out. Plus I have a chronic condition that made it more complicated, too.  But it wasn't so bad that I won't ever TTC again.  I want more children, I just wish I could enjoy it more.  And I do feel bad saying it wasn't like the happiest time of my life.  I was happy when DD was born and enjoy being a mother more than I enjoyed being PG. Plus I was about 30 lbs overweight and i didn't get the cute baby belly, so i just looked more fat than preg until the very end.

  • I loved it, but I had it pretty easy. I have a friend who threw up everyday until she gave birth...I would not blame her to say she didnt enjoy it and I doubt I would have enjoyed that.
  • Yes, but I had a very easy pregnancy.  No m/s, I never swelled or had heartburn or was uncomfortable.  DS was a week overdue in the Las Vegas summer and I still really had nothing to complain about.

    This!

I just kept wishing I had a catheter near the end so I could sleep through the night Stick out tongue

  • Nope. We had infertility problems and were so thankful when I finally got pregnant but I wouldn't say I enjoyed the actual pregnant part.
  • I enjoyed feeling my baby moved and I liked the way my belly looked (my face was an entirely different story) during pregnancy.

But, there were times that it was really difficult.  I was nauseated 24/7 until 16w and then dealt with an irritable uterus from 30-36w, so I didn't enjoy those parts of pregnancy.

  • I had a fantastic pregnancy and I loved every minute of it!
  • i tell everyone who will listen that i loved being pregnant (after the first trimester anyway). i was pregnant all summer, had huge swollen ankles and still loved it. i had an easy pregnancy so i had nothing to complain about.

i was at a party recently where there were 2 pregnant women, and all they could talk about was how happy they were that they weren't pregnant in the summer, how miserable it would be, that they couldn't wait for their pregnancies to be over, and looked at me in disbelief and pretty much called me a liar when i said i loved being pregnant in the summer.

  • Guess I'm the odd one out here. I had a pretty "easy" pregnancy and hated it.  I was swollen and hot and fat and moody and exhausted. Then I ended up with Pre-E in late 3rd tri.

I want another LO but I really dont ever want to be pg again.

  • I loved being pregnancy from 13 - 28 weeks...in the beginning it was m/s...by the end it was high bp/swelling/ginormous belly that kept me from enjoying it too much...but the outcome was worth every painful moment...
  • Health wise I never felt better. But I looked horrible. And GD sucked.
  • I enjoyed all 3 of my pregnancies....  I was fortunate and didn't have any problems with any of them.

    1st tri: No.

2nd tri: Sure. I finally didn't feel like I had a 24-7 hangover and I could eat again.

3rd tri: Ok at first, but then I started getting so swollen it was a chore just to go to the bathroom. Not fun.

Overall though, being pregnant really wasn't for me. I honestly didn't like how my body changed and I really had a lot of food aversions. I felt faint a lot and just generally out of sorts.

  • I enjoyed being pregnant. DH would laugh at me b/c i was all smiles 99% of the time ... even when I was nauseous for 10 weeks!
  • I was miserable with DS.  I had sciatica so bad I could barely walk and then my eyesight got really blurry at the end.  This time I didn't mind it up until the end when I started having issues with my old c-section scar.

I am with you!  I had a very easy pregnancy.  Never got stretch marks, swollen anything, heartburn, etc.  M/s for about two weeks and that was it.  I also was very small - I looked about 5 months along when I delivered, so never got uncomfortably huge.  IDK, I just wanted to have my body be "mine" again.

  • Physically, yes. Emotionally, no - it was essentially a 9 month panic attack and I was constantly worried he was dead or would die before or during birth (but we have a history that makes pregnancy scarier than typical).
    *** It's funny because I'm fat ***
  • yes! i had an almost perfect pregnancy!
  • I feel the exact same way you do.

  • LOVED IT! I had a somewhat strenuous/difficult, if that's a word, pregnancy but still loved it.
  • It depends on the pregnancy. With my first pregnancy I was miserable. MS through the whole thing, sciatica, swelling, sinus infections, heartburn...I was miserable and could not wait to give birth.

This time around was great. I loved every second of it. The pregnancy was easy, the labor was less than two hours and he popped out with one push.

  • I loved being pregnant, but I think that's pretty uncommon. There's certainly a lot about pregnancy to hate! I had a very easy pregnancy, so I was able to enjoy it. But, my delivery was so traumatic that in seriously going to need years of mental recovery time until I'm willing to do it again!

  • No I did not enjoy it at all.  I was glad I got pregnant and had 2 healthy babies but am also very glad that I will not be going through it again.  I had horrible all day sickness and was very swollen and uncomfortable.  And I hated I couldnt eat certain things and other stuff.
