That I still rock Max to sleep every night? I was talking to a few coworkers and they say it is and I may have killed the chance for him to fall asleep on his own. I sure hope not, eeek!

Good Lord, tell your coworkers to STFU already! (I bet they don't even have kids, do they? Some people!) No, no, no, NO you have not ruined Max's chances to learn how to go to sleep on his own--I promise! I stand firmly in the camp of moms who say that if it works for you both (and one day it won't, but if it does for right now), never mind what everyone else thinks you ought to do. I bet you'd be surprised at his ability to put himself to sleep if he's shown how to do it, but that doesn't mean you have to do it immediately just b/c I said that. One day he'll be pushing you away and reaching for his bed and pointing you out the door--all too soon! But if you like it, and if he sleeps well enough, I say down with the naysayers!
I nurse and rock my DD every night and sometimes she falls asleep and other times she doesn't. Some nights she cries for 5 minutes when I put her down and other nights she doesn't. But I love rocking her at night.
IMO there is nothing wrong with rocking Max to sleep each night. Like PPs said, he won't want to be rocked forever so cherish this time now. And when he no longer wants to be rocked he will fall asleep on his own, in his own way.
I think it depends on the kid, but I wouldn't worry about it. I nursed/rocked Finn to sleep until he stopped nursing around 9 months and I did this until I stopped nursing Riley at 11 months. And once we stopped nursing they both totally had no issues going to sleep on their own.
I still rock Owen and he is 19 months old. Now, we only rock for few minutes and he isn't asleep when I put him down, but he goes to sleep by himself afterwards. I like that we end our day with cuddle time and find it relaxing for both of us. Enjoy your baby time. He'll be fine, ignore the coworkers.
Evelyn is 26 months old and I still rock her every night. I don't necessarily rock her to sleep, but I rock her until she goes to bed. Sometimes, she does fall asleep though.
She used to rock and nurse during her lullabye CD and after 4 or 5 songs she'd be asleep and I'd lay her in her crib. Now I rock her for 4 or 5 songs, then put her in her bed to fall asleep.
Its our downtime, we talk about our day and all the things we did. Every night I ask Evie what her favorite part of the day was. When she was little, I would make up her answer and the first time she told me what her favorite part of the day was, I almost cried. This is by far MY favorite part of MY day. I would challenge anyone to tell me I am doing her a disservice by doing so.
I nursed SC to sleep which I never admitted at the time, well only to my super crunchy AP friends. Did I screw her up, who knows, she is a night owl and fights going to sleep so I put her down later than most....which when I do, she falls right asleep...I swear I wish I could go out so fast.
Tell anyone who gives you any flack to STFU.....they are only little for a very short time. Enjoy that cuddle time.
Is he sleeping through the night? That was my only thing. If he is not and you thought it was because of rocking then I would quit. Otherwise who cares. Some babies are fine with it and others struggle. When E was not STTN I tries to make the conditions that he went to sleep under the exact same as when he'd wake up so that he wouldn't freak and could go rift back to sleep. Some babies can be rocked to sleep and it not bother their sleep at all. I agree, if it's working for you then don't worry about it. And PS he is ridiculous cute in that Easter pic!
I think it is fine. I rock/nurse Graham to sleep most nighst. Sometimes he is asleep when I put him down and sometimes he is not. I am just trying to enjoy my snuggle time!
You gotta love unsolicited advice! I was still rocking Caroline to sleep at Max's age. She is now 21 months old and we still sit in the glider and read books and then we will just rock and be quiet together for about 5 minutes and then she will look at me and say "night, night". That's when I put her in the bed. And Caroline has been sleeping through the night since she was probably 2 or 3 months old.
Thank y'all so much! I was a bit shocked at how they were responding to me when I told them our bedtime routine. I absolutely LOVE this time together with him. He is so sweet and cuddly, and touches my face, and I sing to him and kiss him and... well you get the picture. Like Michelle, this is the best part of my day. I miss him so much at work (today was the worst after being home w/ him for spring break) that in the 2 hours I get with him after work, I want to snuggle with my baby boy.
Ingrid- he does sttn, THANK GOD. : )

Then why change a good thing?! I agree with pp, you are lucky to have a snuggle bug. Ethan is so active and often will not sit still long enough to snuggle. I get a minute or two and then he's off again. I feel the same way as you- that I miss him so much during the day and LOVE bedtime. I love when he smells so sweet after bath and looks so cute in his pjs. Those other teachers are probably haters because their kids won't snuggle them. ha
