DH and I received a box from UPS last week without any identifying info on it. When we opened it, we discovered it was from BRU and given from a friend who won't be able to make the shower. Great! I can write the thank you and don't have to make shower guests watch me open a gift from someone who isn't there.
DH noticed this weekend though that one of our items purchased on our registry and being shipped is from someone who is flying to the shower. It got us thinking that since many of our items are online only and some of our guests our traveling, they might choose to ship it. As a result, we could potentially open gifts from people who are attending the shower.
Do I just bring all the shipments we receive to the shower so that I don't accidentally open gifts from people who are attending the shower and maybe want to have their gift there and see me open it? Do I have DH open all of them and re-tape them if it is from someone who is likely attending the shower? Do I just open everything as it comes, figuring they chose to ship it and don't expect to see it there? I'd love to know if anyone has any tips on how they handled this.
Bonus question: Have any of you selected ship-later for your registry items that you don't need right away (like a larger car seat)? If guests purchase those should we just have them shipped right away so that their gift is at the shower?
Re: Are you opening boxes that arrive before your shower?
I would open it and if you know they will be attending the shower, tap it back up and bring it. If they are not going to be there then open it, make sure it works, write thank you note.
I would get things as people buy them. That way you can make sure they work.everything is there. If something is wrong you will be without there certain time window for returns etc..
We had to return our stroller because a part was missing, We were not going to need the stroller for another 4 or so months but I am glad we went ahead a opened it.
