Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Why is he so hungry all the time?

Ryan eats 6oz at a time. He used to eat around 8:30am, 11:30am, 2:30pm, 5:30 pm and 8:30pm and then sleep all night.

He's added in a 4:30am feeding. But he screams like he's still hungry after every feeding except the 4:30am! I don't really want to give him more at a time because he finally stopped spitting up half his bottle after each feeding.

What do I do? It's not like he's starving, he's already busting out of his 6 month clothes and is quite the solid little boyBig Smile

Do I try giving him more at each feeding?

Re: Why is he so hungry all the time?

  • I would first try adding 2 oz to his bottle and see what he does. Are you sure it's a hungry cry and not a pain cry? Could his tummy be upset after the bottles?

It's so hard figuring all this out! GL.

  • It's definitely a hungry cry. I think I might try adding 2oz to his bedtime bottle? That's when he seems most hungry. Lately it's not even every 3 hours, more like 2 or 2.5 when he starts yelling. Crazy kid!

  • Maybe try feeding him every 2.5 hours or so, if he seems hungry. Adding another daytime feeding might help to eliminate the 4:30 am feeding (if he was initially sttn). My LO just started STTN at 4 months, but I EBF so I know BM is digested faster.

  • He could be getting ready for a growth spurt or a developmental leap - both take extra energy, so extra food.  I would try feeding him either a couple ounces more or more often for the time being and hope he gets past it on his own in a few days.

  • DD will cry after she finishes a bottle, but I normally just burp her and then give her a paci or distract her a bit. Typically she just needs a minute or two to realize that she's full. Sometimes she just wants to suck for a bit more and the paci satisfies that need.
