Tell me about your diaper pail

We are now CDing full-time.  Prior to this past week, we CDed part-time because DD is in a daycare that used sposies only.  Well, poor DD developed a horrible diaper rash that finally got better after a weekend at home using cloth diapers.  When she went back to daycare, she broke out again--it was so bad that I thought she might have developed an allergy to sposies.  Her doctor also thought she had more of an allergic reaction than just diaper rash.  So, her daycare has agreed to use the cloth diapers.

I ordered a bunch more CDs.  We had been using this, but it is a little awkward to handle a zipper and a dirty diaper.  I'm considering a trash can with a "step" flip top (this) and a reusable liner.  I'm just concerned about keeping the smell contained.  I will be doing CD laundry about every 2-3 days.

Please show/tell me what you use and give me any other suggestions you have.  TIA!

  • We use a lidded trash can and a Wahmies pail liner. The trash can is just a tall kitchen trash can with a touch-top lid. We wash every 2-3 days and have little to no smell issues. Usually there is none, but if she has a particularly poopy couple of days, we sometimes smell the dipes when the pail is opened and it signals us to wash sooner.

The pail liner also has a little tag sewn onto the inside that you can put a few drops of essential oil on if you want to help with odor.. we haven't needed to do that yet though.

  • We just use a plastic pail and that's it.  We used a pillow case for awhile to keep the poop off the pail, but it really didn't help that much, and I couldn't let myself waste the money on a real liner.  We just rinse it well with hot water between loads, and occasionally use bleach or other cleaner to really clean it.  Also, if you take a few moments to kind of roll up the diaper (similar to a disposable) then no poop really touches the pail anyways.

this pretty much word for word, except our pail has a little step to push with your foot to open it. we never smell the pail when the lid is closed, and it doesn't linger when we open it to toss a diaper in.

  • it's a 4 gallon ice cream pail w/ lid that i got for 25 cents

  • We use a plastic step flip-top we got for probably under $20 at Target and have a wet bag for a liner. We wash every 3-4 days and there is no smell (unless you put your head in there!). As long as the lid comes down all the way, you should be fine!

This but step lid...not touch lid, but we have a kissaluv (?) liner that also has the patch for the oil.  No smells--until you actually open it and it is day 3.  We have a small one step can in his room (we spend much more time downstairs) with a bummis bag inside.  again, no smell at all.
