How do you get the sticky residual tape out of LO hair?

My LO had several head I.V.'s while in the NICU. There are some small parts in his hair that has stickyness; however, there is this HUGE glob left. I gave him a bath several days ago and tried to get it out w/ some organic soap, but it didn't work. It just moved the stickyness around.

Do any of you have any tricks to get the sticky tape out of the baby's hair? I am just surprised he still has hair!

  • I would suggest something oily like baby oil or eye makeup remover..

  • Did you try Johnson and Johnson's Baby Shampoo? Lather it up in his hair and let it sit a few minutes.

  • I would love to know this answer. Aiden's cheeks are always sticky because of his oxygen tube tape.

  • I think we just used an alcohol pad, it seemed to work pretty good.
  • our nicu had actual "adhesive remover pads" in the little packets like the alcohol wipes come in. they sent us home with a bunch for the cannula holders... and we used them periodically in the nicu as well.

we didn't use them every time she got sticky though- they smell a bit like wood varnish or something- so i didn't feel comfortable putting it on her skin all the time. THEY WORKED GREAT though.

  • We used baby oil. Works like a charm!
