More dumb nursing attire questions

For those who say they "lived in target nursing tanks"....were you wearing the tank as your "bra". As in, no extra support?

Ladies with the big boobies? Same? Or did you feel you needed more support?

Re: More dumb nursing attire questions

  • I need a bra.  If I am just around the house I really like the cross over night bras from motherhood.  I am a DDD and they fit well and are comphy but have just enough support beyond a regular nursing tank.  In the early days when I was super engorged it hurt to not have support.  But that's just me.  Now I'm know to just wear a regular bra and pull it down cause nursing bars just aren't as supportive.  But in the beginning when nursing a lot I really like Bravado's.

  • I didn't love the tanks so much and I'm a DD.  They were good in the beginning when I just lived on my couch being a 24 hour buffet but as I was getting out more they weren't my favorite.  I found nursing bras to be more supportive but still not as good as a regular bra....awww...miss those days...will be reunited soon :)

  • I am a DD (DDD when I was nursing) and I lived in them when I was at home. When I was out of the house and nursing, I wore a Gillian & OMalley nursing bras from Target. While nursing, I wore one or the other, depending on what I was doing that day.

If you want your girls to stay above your navel after your nursing experience, you'll want more support :)

Elila and Goddess both make some really good nursing bras for larger cup sizes. I can't think of any supportive tanks that lift and separate the girls, which is what you still want in a nursing bra, so ducts don't get pinched shut (Glamourmom is the most sturdy, but it's support is more of the smoosh variety).

  • I have two nursing bras from target and one target nursing tank and one glamour mom tank and I have yet to use all of these. I was and still get really engorged and its super painful and this is the only thing I can wear at home right now ! I bought two of these and live in them right now :)
  • I needed a bra.

I found that the Elle MacPhearson (sp?) bras worked the best for me, the soft cup...I wore those under the nursing tanks.  But try to make sure whatever you do that you have a snug but not tight fit....mastitis was terrible (I got it in both at the same time).

And....I was an H while nursing.  Do not be surprised it they really don't get much smaller after.

  • I was a DD for the first couple months of nursing and have regulated to a D finally but always wear a bra and a tank. I didnt care for the target ones since they didnt seem long enough for me. I preferred the Old Navy nursing tanks.

  • I second elle mcpherson and bravavdo. cute and comfy - support without smooshing. :-)

  • I would wear a Target nursing tank without anything else for the first 8 weeks or so.  I'm definitely a bigger girl up top and it worked well enough, albeit, not the most flattering.  At that stage though I didn't really care what I looked like!

Around 8 weeks I went to Nordstrom and got fitted for nursing bras which I still wear now and love.

  • I don't like to wear tanks period without a bra due to the nipplage factor...and it's worse for me when nursing.  I do like them for layering or around the house.  I have 2 from my first pg that I'll try again but I need the support of a nursing bra. (Which you can't beat the Target price on nursing bras - now I just hope they fit and are comfy!)

  • I don't wear another bra....just the tank.

When Lilly was little I was a 34E but now I am a bit smaller at like a 34D (although I don't feel like I am that big...I was measured though and that is what they said.)

  • I don't wear the Target ones alone in public - home or sleeping yes, but after the first few weeks (once I noticed what I was actually wearing) I wore something more supportive out. I will wear the Bravado tank alone.

  • It's been a few years but I wore the Target nursing bras and when I would go out I would wear the bra and tank for more support.... Unfortunatley they didn't reduce much in size even now three years later!

  • I was a 38g pre bring and 38i after ( and still). I only wore the tanks around the house. I wore Bella materna bras all other times.
  • I ditto the Elle Macpherson bra - really comfortable, and it didn't look completely industrial.

I liked pairing those bras with the Boob tanks. =]

Also, they come longer in length so that it can cover my post partum belly.  I absolutely adore these camis since I can wear them alone or wear them as a layering piece.  I wear a sheer cardigan to make it look as fashionable as possible; I'm totally over the looking pregnant stage.

I hope my comments help in your search for the perfect cami!   Happy Nursing!

  • I did wear the target tanks without a bra on occasion... but I would also put another tank over it (just so I could feel less, 'out there'. I was much more comfortable in my bravado nursing bra, and the target tanks would trigger a clogged duct every now and then). I also loved the motherhood sleep tanks for at home....
