My pediatrician (actually it was the physician's assistant) told us not to use a diaper cream that contains zinc oxide. My 5 week old has a really bad diaper rash and after googling it seems one thing that will help is zinc oxide.Any one else been told not to use zinc oxide???Any other remedies?
Re: xposted - diaper rash and ointments w/ zinc oxide
Not sure what the problem is with zinc oxide, all the diaper creams my pedi ever recommended had it. The ones that worked best were calmoseptine (you have to ask the pharmacist to order it, but no prescription), Flanders' ointment, and triple paste. What actually did amazing things was changing her to chlorine-free diapers. Horrible diaper rash was gone in a couple of days and never came back.
Aquaphor has no zinc oxide, but never really worked great when she was really irritated. It works as protection though, before the rash. And the best thing you can do is leave baby's bottom out in the open, take the diaper off and put a towel under and let it air out.
7th generation makes Chlorine free, and I believe the Huggies natural are also chlorine free.
I love Aquafore. DD1 had a bleeding diaper rash when she had a tummy bug at 1 year old. She had so much diarrhea that it cause bleeding sores. The ER doc gave us a prescription for diaper cream that was Aquafor with an additive to keep uric acids from irritating her skin.
Plus Aquafor can help heal boo boos.
I soaked her bum last night, let her air dry for a bit and used aquaphor. I think we're on our way to healing.
thanks all!?
