I feel like a true adult!

I just got my first Jury Summons in the mail today. Yay me Confused. I'm going to call my doctor first thing Monday morning to see if there's anyway I can get out of it. I have to go in when i'll be 36 weeks, so who knows when the actual trial would be.

I just don't want to go in at all because it'll mean another day off of work, and i'm currently taking days off without pay for my doctors appointments. I don't want to take an extra day off without pay for this!

I guess if there were any "good time" to get a jury summons it would be when I was 8/9 months pregnant, right??

    I hate jury duty. Its a colossal waste of time. I'd rather let others do it. I hope you get out of it!

    You might have to go the first day but there's no way you would be selected. Most employers still pay you when you get jury duty and if they don't you get paid a little bit from the city you live in for going.

    I'm kind of a temp. I'm a substitute teacher and currently in a long term position (actually i'm out for someone who had her baby last month)... so i doubt my employer will pay me. After reading it the city will give me a whole $40 a day. Woo. LOL

    I highly doubt you'll get chosen at 8/9 months pregnant...most lawyers will give you a bye.  Besides, when you go in and aren't chosen, most states will exempt you from jury duty for 5 years. 

    **edit** I see you're in NY...I can confirm that you'll definitely be exempt for 5 years if your number isn't chosen.  =)

    Good luck!  I'm an attorney, and I know a lot of judges that will NOT excuse you because of pregnancy.  I worked for a very nice judge that probably would have excused you, but that's definitely not standard.   I know a lot of people get annoyed with jury duty, but pregnant or not, it's such an important part of our legal system.
