breast pain after weaning

i went 6 days without having to pump and no discomfort, so i stopped wearing the nursing bra and went back to my regular underwire. now my aereola area has some lumps that hurt--on both sides. i massaged them yesterday but that stimulated some milk.

what should i be doing? ignoring it? icing? massaging? the pain isn't unbearable (like when i first started weaning), just not pleasant.

tia!

Re: breast pain after weaning

  • I would manually release some milk until the lumpiness goes away or at lease the pain.  It's been 7 months since I weaned dd and if I massage and stimulate left, I can still produce milk on that side.

  • Underwire interferes with lymphatic system drainage, not just breastmilk drainage. Go back to wearing a non underwire for a bit while your breasts are still adjusting. Express a tiny bit and take some Advil to reduce the pain and inflammation.

I could still get something out of my boobs a year after I stopped nursing Abby!
