Safe to sleep in boppy at night?

I've noticed that DS sleeps a ton better in the boppy, but don't know how safe that would be for night time sleep (just doing it for little naps right now).  If its not safe, do you something similar we can use that is?  (he only sleeps 2-2.5 hours about 3 times at night)

  • Is it the incline?  Have you tried a bouncy seat or a swing?  Or buying a wedge for under the mattress?  I wouldn't leave my LO in the boppy if I were not right there and awake.  She could slide down and block off her airway.

  • When he was less of a mover we would do this, but in the PNP next to us. As he started to move he would slide down and we removed it. Now we fold a blanket and put it as a pillow.

  • Well, considering the giant tag on it that says not to let the baby sleep in it, I'd say no. The fear is that the baby's position may shift so that his/her chin rests on the chest, constricting airflow. I wouldn't take a chance and I'd make sure I didn't go too far when baby naps in it either (I did let DS sleep in it, but I was always right there with him in the same room, usually visiting with people while he slept).

  • DD has been sleeping in her boppy for a couple weeks now. In fact, shes sleeping in it now. Its the only way to get her to sleep. If i put her in the swing or PNP cradle, she wakes up. Its the only thing that works. Whatever works!
  • We did this for the first 6 weeks.  Of course there is a big tag on the side of the boppy that says it's not for sleeping, but it's the only place he would sleep besides my chest.  We bedshare though and like your DS he only sleeps for 2 hrs at a time, so I was able to check on him constantly.

We had to stop because DS is becoming more mobile and can roll over now.  We now use the Snugglenest which took him a few days to get used to, but now he's fine with it.

  • Nope! A baby in our area was smothered to death after he managed to get himself under the boppy.

I agree with PP, better to use a carseat, swing or bouncer just to be safe!
