we received several pieces of furniture from MIL for the baby -- most importantly dh's crib and dresser from when he was a baby along with his desk from grade school. the dresser is tall and cannot be used as a changing table, but i'm debating on using the desk as one. it has a hutch/shelves that can be removed and i'm thinking about putting that part in the closet with baskets for storage, then using the 3 desk drawers for storage, putting a standing laundry bin where the chair would normally go, and just buying the changing top/pad and basket for storing wipes, powders, etc. on the top.
does this sound reasonable? having never been in this position before, i'm not sure i know what i'm doing. all i know is we have this furniture and no basement here to store it in!! is there anything i'm forgetting? anyone have any other ideas?
Re: baby furniture Q
I think it's a good idea. We have 2 changing stations (neither are meant to be changing stations) - one on top of DS's dresser in his room, and one in our bedroom (downstairs) on top of my dresser. We just have the changing pads sitting on the dressers. Granted, they can slip, so you have to just pay attention while they are on it, but it works out just fine (the pads do have anchors that you can screw into your furniture if you are worried about slippage). We have little diaper caddies (like this one I have also heard this one is good) beside the stations for easy access to supplies.
I think it should be fine - as long as the height is good. Try to change a doll or something for a few minutes, and make sure you feel comfortable with the area, spacing, height, etc.
so the desk measures about 30" tall. i'm 5'5" and dh is 5'10" most changers i've seen online are 36-37" tall. would the 6" be that big a deal?
thanks
