Got a question for you ladies about things that you may have bought for your LO. I want to have everything I need for our baby but I don't want to waste money buying things that aren't useful or that LO won't like. Please tell me if these things are worth the money.
1. The P&P with the changer/napper
2. The bumbo
3. The travel system
Also, any things that you couldn't live without looking back?
Re: Popping over from 2nd trimester
1. The P&P with the changer/napper - Have a P&P and don't use it.
2. The bumbo - DS didn't like it. I'd wait until you can try it out to buy it so you can return it if need be.
3. The travel system - Use this all the time.
Also, any things that you couldn't live without looking back?
Love our Moby, Seahorse, and we don't use them any more but couldn't have lived without our swaddler.
1. We have a pnp with a regular full-size bassinet in it, and that works for us.. the "changer" we just use as extra storage
2. Only if you get it on sale, as a gift, or used (some kids like it, some don't)
3. I would've preferred a snap'n'go system and an umbrella stroller... but then again, she doesn't like strollers much, anyway... I carry her everywhere! But the snap'n'go would've been great for when we were still using the infant seat. I find the travel system stroller is bulky. But, I got my travel system for $25, so I really shouldn't complain, eh?
Edit: I forgot about the stuff I couldn't live without... some form of baby carrier is a MUST!!! I've used Snugli's, and just got myself an Ergo yesterday (love, love, LOVE!!), but I think for the next one I might want to get a moby.
1. yes
2. yes
3. I use a Graco Snug Rider with the car seat and I have a car seat adapter for my jogger. Love them all!
1. The P&P with the changer/napper: I bought one and I like that it matches the rest of my stuff (swing, carseat, etc). But I probably should have just bought a $40 playpen instead of the $250 pnp. We never used the changer part, and only used the bassinette like 10 times. We use the playpen part for when we stay at hotels and stuff.
2. The bumbo: I would borrow it if you could. My DD didn't like it, but I bought one so I'll try again with the next babe.
3. The travel system: I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Graco Deco system. I love the colors, I love how gently the stroller glides, I love how the carseat snaps in.
Also, any things that you couldn't live without looking back?
A swing. Absolutely. DD slept there overnight a bunch and it was a lifesaver countless times.
1. We never got one; DS used a moses basket
2. DS likes his for the most part, although he thinks he's mobile and tries to escape from it now
3. We have a Peg Perego seat and Si stroller (similar to the travel system but the stroller is much lighter). The stroller is great and the seat serves it's purpose
I think I would get it again because of the stroller.
I love our Beco carrier! The Moby was great for the first few months but he is too heavy for it now. Definitely get good swaddle blankets or one of the swaddlers.
1. We used the basinette/changer section of our P and P with DS1, but not with DS2. DS2 was born weighing 11 pounds, 10 ounces and was too big for both at birth.
. We still use the P and P 3X a day for DS2's naps. Couldn't live without it.
2. Never had a Bumbo. Can't advise you there.
3. We used our travel system like crazy with DS1 and I still love it. That being said, considering how big DS2 is, we only used our infant carrier for 2 months and he outgrew it. I used our travel system stroller with DS2 when someone else could push DS1 in our umbrella stroller, but obviously that's really inconvenient. We just bought a double stroller, so now I don't use our travel system stroller, except to put DS2 in when we're in the back yard playing with DS1 and DS2 needs a place to sit.
I personally would not bring a newborn into my house without an Angelcare Monitor. The piece of mind that the motion sensor brings is priceless. Plus, we had an incident with DS1 where the monitor went off and DS1 had quit breathing in his crib (he was a preemie). I can't say enough good things about it. Definitely worth the money.
We LOVE our P&P. The changer is nice, but we have a changing table that's higher up (and therefore easier on my back- no bending over) so I don't use the changer. The napper was a godsend. It was the only way I could get him to sleep when he was super tiny (without being in someone's arms). It kind of "snuggled" him and was fleecy and warm.
I love our travel system- but I wish I had a smaller frame or something when we're just taking a quick run to the grocery store. The stroller is kinda bulky when the carseat fits just fine in/on grocery carts.
We don't have a bumbo.
Oh- as for must-haves? His bouncy chair, and my breastfeeding pillow. It's not a boppy- but it has a little restraint strap so you can prop the baby up in it, and leave them there but they can't wiggle down/fall over. I don't leave him unattended in it though, of course.
1. the P&P for me is a must. We use it daily.
2. No idea what a bumbo is.
3. Yes with the travel system, although we haven't used the stroller a whole lot. It's very bulky....I wish we had the snap and go ( I think that's what it's called). But I know we'll use the stroller more as she gets older.
1. We LOVE our P&P! We live in a colonial so we leave that on the ground floor since DS's crib is on the second floor and it works out great! The changer really saves my back! It is a bit of a pain to pack up the napper/changer though so when we bring it over to other places we normally only bring the P&P part.
2. Don't have one
3. Love our travel system. I really think it would be hard to go many places without one with an infant or newborn!
4. A swing! Lulls newborn to sleep or just keeps DS busy now if I really need to get something done or even just lay down for a few!
Must get a Boppy! It makes breastfeeding and bottlefeeding so easy (at least the holding part, not the actual feeding)
We have a PNP and don't use it because we sidecar-ed a crib to our bed as a co-sleeper. We never used the changer attachment because we have a changing pad on a dresser.
We use a convertible car seat. Get a stroller with an infant bassinet.
We're always using our pouch slings (DH has his own because he needs a bigger size). I wish I had gotten a Moby from day 1, but she's too big now. On to a woven wrap for us!
We don't have a swing, just a borrowed bouncy seat.
Less is more (space & money ;-) ).
1 - PNP definitely like having an extra changer on my first floor. It really depends on your house.
2 - My DD loves the Bumbo. She sits in it all the time while I'm doing things. She does try to escape, but I think we'll get another month or so out of it.
3 - Travel systems are bulky. I use mine every day, but the stoller takes up more than 1/2 of the trunk of my SUV.
1 Yes, I used the P&P bassinet and kept her in my room until she was 3 mths.
2. At 4mths she's using it now, but i'd wait to buy it and see if she likes it.
3. travel system, I like it and it works for us.
I highly recommend a carrier. I used the moby from the beginning. It let me carry my baby while giving me freedom to do things around the house. When she got around 2 1/2 mths I started using the bjorn.
Seahorse! It's a must. My baby loves it.
1) We use the changer when we go to the in-laws or stay in a hotel
2) I wouldn't buy it new that's for sure. My DD only stays in it for about 5 mins and we only have had her in it a couple times.
3) Use it daily
Some other useful things have been a baby playmat (it's a great place to put them down for a little), the boppy (especially if you are going to breastfeed), a white noise machine (my DD was not sleeping well at all before we got this) and a swaddling blanket (although not all babies like to be swaddled).
1. we use the PnP now. if you don't have a bassinet the PnP with bassinet might be good in case you want to keep baby in your room. We have a small place so Sabrina's been in her crib since week 2.
2. Love the Bumbo but didn't start using it till 3 months so definitely not a necessity right away.
3. Again depends on your situation. We live in a walkup in the city, work in the burbs. Parking sucks. So we needed something very lightweight and compact and went with an infant car seat and Snap n Go stroller base. AWESOME and super convenient and compact and light. Would've cried by now with a huge travel system.
Must haves for early on IMO: Miracle Blanket/swaddle blankets, Moby Wrap, noise machine, Boppy pillow (if you're BFing), a good SWING!!!, and the realization that those first couple weeks/months might be VERY hard and exhausting - and NOT to compare your baby to others.

1. The P&P with the changer/napper - If you have a two story house, you might just love it. With my first two, we had a two story house with all of the bedrooms on the second floor. The P&P was great to have downstairs so that they could nap downstairs. I didn't use the changing attachment too much. They won't fit in it for long and I just usually changed my babies on the floor anyway. Now we are in a two story house, but the master br is on the first floor and we have a cosleeper in there that he naps in. We didn't get the P&P for that reason.
2. The bumbo - it's hit or miss with my youngest, Sean. I didn't get one for my first two kids. Some days he loves it and other days he hates it. I would wait on this one until you can let him try it out or you can buy and return it.
3. The travel system was a must for all three of my babies.
1. The P&P with the changer/napper we bought the nice Chicco pnp and we love it, but we honestly could have just gotten a cheaper one. I never used the changing part of it. We used the pnp for the 1st 2 weeks DS was here and then put him in the crib. Both sets of grandparents have their own pnp so this is something that won't get a lot of use unless we travel to see friends or he goes to stay with my sister.
2. The bumbo we borrowed one from a friend. I was hesitant to buy one because I knew we were having a big baby and I worried he'd outgrow it too quickly. We do use it quite a bit, though, so I think with a smaller baby I would have ended up buying my own.
3. The travel system - we didn't get this. I did not want a travel system stroller. We bought the Snap-N-Go and a Baby Jogger City Mini. LOVE both of them.
P&P--have one, haven't used it yet, but will when we travel. We'll never use it in the house.
2. She doesn't care for it, I'd get one for $10 off craigslist.
3. Travel system's are big and bulky and almost everyone I know who has one regrets it. Even my friend who is a bumpie and heard all the recommendations against them, decided to get one anyway and now she regrets it. Like a pp said, they also don't work if you plan to have more kids. I got a like-new Snap-N-Go off craigslist for $20, my Graco Snugride snaps into it and has a cover so she's always shaded. The Snugride also snaps into the jogging stroller that my DH uses to run with her every day. We have the Baby Jogger City Mini for when she hits 6 months, it was my favorite purchase.
