Baby Proofing

What do you girls recommend (besides a gate, plug covers..).  Max is starting to crawl and I have nothing done.  I'm thinking we need to do this real soon, he's all over the place and grabs EVERYTHING.

    Definitely cabinet locks for any dangerous cabinets (cleaning products, appliances, etc.). Just sit back and watch him for a while and you will start to see what you need customized to your wants. I mean DD used to push buttons on DH's stereo which I could care less about, but when DH saw it and we turned it on, she had rea-adjusted the whole surround sound. So, we had to get a plastic protector thing for that. And, there are some junk cabinets on our ent. center that I didn't want to mess with her pulling everything out. So, we got locks for those.

    Oh - might want to think about oven lock as well. When DD started standing up, she discovered the oven door and would try to yank on it.

    This is what we did and SC is still alive....

    superyard was spread the width of our family room in front of TV and fireplace...that worked well and I actually hung a mirror and some toys on it.  We only locked the cabinet in kitchen with chemicals and the drawers with knives.  Baby gate kept SC in family room kitchen area and at the top of stairs.  Our oven door was high up, and SC would play with the broiler door, but after a few talkings to she left it alone..it was the one thing that stressed me out.

    We did plug covers and cabinet locks on most of the kitchen cabinets. I don't have a ton of storage so I keep my glass pyrex below and didn't want him pulling it out on him. Just last week we also bought a tv anchor we are putting in this weekend. Other than that not much. We don't have any gates. We just shut the doors we don't want him in but, with out layout that works (one story house). HTH

    Your needs will change as he gets older. Now, I'd start with the plug covers and cabinet locks. As he starts pulling up on things, you might start adding furniture anchors. I thought I was pretty much done, but I've recently had to put refrigerator locks on because the kids would go get snacks and leave the doors wide open.

    But, you'll do whatever suits his needs. Audrey never looked twice at an outlet and Ethan was keen on electricuting himself. Audrey would down a bottle of medicine and Ethan wouldn't touch it. So, you'll figure out what's worth baby-proofing.
