An adult dose is 1-2 pills. One usually works for allergies, but I need 2 to get sleepy. I have a high tolerance to it though, I have year round allergies and some years I take it daily like claritin. Unisom works wonders and is safe as well. It may also help if you still have m/s.
I honestly thought about trying this tonight. I have had the worst nights sleeping. My only fear is that I'll fall asleep, sleep really well, and not get up in time to go pee...

I take one and it does the trick (to help me sleep and it also helps me feel less allergic in the AM, particularly when we leave the windows open all night).
Frankly, I could care less if I woke up in time to pee...I'm SOOOO tired of going 3-5 times a night! I've been struggling with sleeping, staying asleep, getting back to sleep, etc. thanks to peeing, snoring, etc. I've taken between 1-2 benadryl or melatonin (up to 6 mg...my doc said it's safe.) Everyone says "It's getting you ready for parenthood!" I'm like "SHEESH, I don't need 6 months practice!" I'm now about at the point where when I try to sleep without one of these, I feel like I'll never get to sleep! Neither one really lasts me all night, either, so sometimes I'll wake up once or twice, then take melatonin at like 2 to help me sleep in (on a saturday or something.)
Insomnia is the worst! I have had it on and off for about 3 years now. I remember when my mom got sick and when she died I seriously slept like 2 hours a night. I was a walking zombie, and sick all the time. With pregnancy, I had it really bad in the first trimester until about 10 weeks. After that, I slept really well and actually fell asleep within half an hour of going to bed! For about a week now though, I've been having a tough time falling asleep again, and not getting there until about 4 in the morning! If I do fall asleep at a decent hour, I wake up at about 4 and toss and turn for 3 hours. I finally broke down and tried Benadryl a few times. Once I took 2 pills and it totally knocked me out but gave me a racing heart a first. The second time, I took 1 pill and it still made me sleepy. I still had to get up to pee lots and I felt so drugged out! Anyways, I think 2 pills is fine, but stick with 1 if it does the job. You NEED sleep and the whole "practice for parenthood" thing sucks. I say, sleep while you can. I got way more sleep when DS was first born, than when my insomnia is bad, so it isn't even comparable.
As a side note- the getting up to pee thing 5 times is the worst. I remember telling DH when I was in labor, after they gave me the epidural and the cathedar that I was actually grateful to have the cathedar in, and that it was so nice not to have to worry about peeing every half an hour!
Before pregnancy I took 2 to help sleep. I took it once while pregnant so far, and I only took one. It didn't help at all. I think next time I'll use 2 again.
